Pharmacological action
LAVASEPT – antiseptic.
Polyhexanide has a wide spectrum of antimicrobial activity.
Active against:
Gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria (including Pseudomonas aeruginosa).
Mushrooms.
Polyethylene glycol (PEG) reduces surface tension, which enhances the action of polyhexanide.
In the presence of protein (0.2% albumin), the effect of the drug is only slightly attenuated, and when conducting quantitative tests, a good fungicidal and bactericidal effect is revealed.
The product does not contain irritating substances: halogen and mercury-containing antiseptics, iodine, heavy metals, polyvinylpyrrolidone and aldehydes.
Polyhexanide is chemically stable, non-volatile, odorless, soluble in water, ethanol, glycerin, propylene glycol and other solvents.
Polyhexanide has low toxicity, and the polyethylene glycol content in Lavasept concentrate is small in order to enhance the toxicity of polyhexanide.
