Use during pregnancy and lactation
Due to the fact that the safety of the use of local corticosteroids during pregnancy has not been established, the purpose of this class of drugs is justified only if the potential benefit to the mother outweighs the potential risk to the fetus.
Drugs of this class should not be used during pregnancy in large doses or for a long time.
Since it has not yet been ascertained whether the level of systemic absorption of GCS is sufficient for the appearance of their detectable concentrations in breast milk, either breastfeeding or the use of the drug should be discontinued during treatment, taking into account how necessary this is for the mother.
Composition
1 g ointment contains:
Active substances:
betamethasone dipropionate 0, 64 mg
salicylic acid 30 mg
Excipients:
paraffin liquid
petrolatum.
Dosage and administration
Apply a thin layer 2 times a day – in the morning and at night, completely covering the affected skin.
In some patients, a supportive effect can be achieved with less frequent applications.
The duration of the course of treatment is determined by its effectiveness, as well as patient tolerance, the presence and severity of side effects.
Side effects
Burning, itching, irritation and dryness of the skin, folliculitis, hypertrichosis, acne-like rashes, hypopigmentation, perioral dermatitis, allergic contact dermatitis when using occlusive dressings – maceration and skin atrophy, secondary infection.
Salicylic acid preparations can cause dermatitis.
With topical administration of GCS for a long period and / or in elevated doses, especially in children, side effects characteristic of systemic GCS may develop (including suppression of the function of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal system, development of Cushing’s syndrome, growth retardation , insufficient weight gain and increased intracranial pressure).
overdose
Symptoms: Excessive or prolonged use of ACS for topical use can cause depression of function of hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal system leading to secondary insufficiency of adrenal function and hypersensitivity phenomena.
Prolonged use of salicylic acid for topical topical administration can cause symptoms of salicylate poisoning (early symptoms include nausea and vomiting).
Treatment: symptomatic therapy. Acute symptoms of hypercorticism are usually reversible. If necessary, correct the electrolyte imbalance.
In case of salicylic acid poisoning, it is necessary to take measures to quickly remove salicylic acid from the body, such as intake of sodium bicarbonate (for alkaline urination and forcing diuresis).
