Pharmacological action

The active substance is ketoconazole, a derivative of imidazole dioxolane. It has fungicidal and fungistatic effects against dermatophytes (Trichophyton spp., Epidermophyton floccosum, Microsporum spp.) And yeast (Candida spp., Pityrosporum spp.). The mechanism of action is the inhibition of ergosterol biosynthesis and a change in the lipid composition of the fungal membrane.

The drug is active against staphylococci and streptococci.

Pharmacokinetics

Systemic absorption with intravaginal administration is negligible.

Indications

Treatment of acute and chronic recurrent vaginal candidiasis.

Prevention of the occurrence of fungal infections of the vagina with reduced resistance of the body and during treatment with antibacterial agents and other drugs that violate the normal microflora of the vagina.

Special instructions

Avoid contact with latex drugs (contraceptive diaphragms, condoms).

Composition

One vaginal suppository contains: Active ingredient: ketoconazole – 400 mg

Excipients: butylhydroxyanisole – 0.5 mg

suppository base: macrogol-1500 (92 – 98)%, macrogol-400 (8 – 2)% – to obtain a suppository weighing 3.0 g.

Dosage and administration

Intravaginally, freeing the suppository from contour packaging. In supine position, deeply – 1 suppository per day for 3-5 days, depending on the course of the disease.

For chronic candidiasis – 1 suppository for 10 days.

Instructions for use

Remove the suppository from the contour packaging (the package is equipped with special wings that allow you to quickly and easily remove the suppository without damaging it).

Introduce the suppository deep into the vagina, in the supine position.

Do not interrupt the treatment yourself if the disturbing symptoms have disappeared, because incomplete treatment can lead to the transition of the disease into a chronic form.

Side effects

Local reactions: hyperemia and irritation of the vaginal mucosa, itching of the vagina.

Allergic reactions: skin rash, urticaria.

Drug interaction

When used simultaneously with rifampicin and isoniazid, the concentration of ketoconazole in the plasma decreases.

When used simultaneously with cyclosporine, indirect anticoagulants and methylprednisolone, ketoconazole may increase the concentration of the latter in plasma.
