Pharmacological action
Stomatidine is an antiseptic drug for topical use in otorhinolaryngology and dentistry.
The antimicrobial effect of hexetidine is associated with the suppression of oxidative reactions in the metabolism of microbial cells (thiamine antagonist).
The drug has an antibacterial effect against gram-negative and gram-positive bacteria, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Proteus spp. and antifungal action (including against fungi of the genus Candida).
At a concentration of 100 mg / ml, growth inhibition of most bacterial strains is inhibited. The development of sustainability was not observed.
Hexatidine has a weak analgesic effect on the mucous membrane.
Indications
Infectious and inflammatory diseases of the oral cavity and pharynx: tonsillitis (including Vincent’s sore throat), pharyngitis, gingivitis, bleeding gums, periodontitis, stomatitis, glossitis, aphthous ulcers.
In order to prevent infection of the alveoli after tooth extraction.
Fungal infections of the oral cavity and pharynx (especially candidal stomatitis before and after surgery).
Injuries to the oral cavity and pharynx.
As a deodorizing agent to eliminate bad breath.
For the prevention of superinfection in the case of tumors of the oral cavity and pharynx in the decay stage.
Contraindications
Children under 4 years.
Hypersensitivity to the drug.
Use during pregnancy and lactation
There is insufficient evidence regarding the penetration of hexetidine through the placenta and into breast milk.
Use of the drug during pregnancy is possible if the potential benefit to the mother outweighs the risk to the fetus.
If it is necessary to use the drug during lactation, it is necessary to decide on the termination of breastfeeding.
Special instructions
Do not use the drug in that category of patients who cannot independently carry out this procedure (rinse).
Impact on the ability to drive vehicles or work with machinery.

The preparation contains 10% ethanol (ethyl alcohol 96%).
The drug should be taken no later than 30 minutes before starting driving.

Dosage and administration of
For diseases of the oral cavity and pharynx, rinse your mouth with 10-25 ml of undiluted Stomatidine solution for 0.5 min. Rinse is carried out 2 times / day., Preferably in the morning and in the evening after eating. If necessary, more frequent use of the drug is possible.
The drug is intended for topical use only (solution cannot be swallowed!). For rinsing, you should always use undiluted solution, in the treatment of diseases of the oral cavity it can also be applied with a swab.
Side effects
Burning, irritation and moderate dryness of the oral mucosa, allergic reactions.
With prolonged use, a change in taste is possible.
After discontinuation of the drug, side effects disappear.
Drug Interactions
No adverse interactions of hexetidine with other drugs have been observed with topical application.
Acts synergistically with fluorides and zinc preparations.
Overdose
Symptoms: Nausea and vomiting may occur if swallowed in large quantities.
Treatment: gastric lavage, appointment of symptomatic therapy.
