Pharmacological action of

chondroitin sulfate – the main component of proteoglycans, constituting the cartilage matrix together with collagen fibers. Artradol has chondroprotective properties. Suppresses the activity of enzymes that cause degradation of articular cartilage. Stimulates the production of proteoglycans by chondrocytes. Enhances metabolic processes in the cartilage and subchondral bone. It has an effect on phosphorus-calcium metabolism in cartilage. The drug has anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties, helps to reduce the release of inflammatory mediators and pain factors into the synovial fluid through synoviocytes and macrophages of the synovial membrane, and inhibits the secretion of leukotriene B4 and prostaglandin E2. The drug helps to restore the cartilage surfaces of the joints, prevents the collapse of connective tissue. Normalizes the production of articular fluid, leading to better joint mobility and less pain. With structural similarities to heparin, Artradol can inhibit the formation of fibrin blood clots in the synovial and subchondral microvasculature.
