Pharmacological action
Blocker of m-cholinergic receptors.
It has a local antispasmodic effect on the smooth muscles of the internal organs (gastrointestinal tract, biliary tract, urinary tract), reduces the secretion of digestive glands.
Local antispasmodic effect due to ganglion-blocking and m-anticholinergic activity of the drug.
Being a quaternary ammonium derivative, hyoscine butyl bromide does not penetrate the BBB, therefore there is no anticholinergic effect on the central nervous system.

Contraindications

Use during pregnancy and lactation
There is currently no evidence of a negative effect of the drug on the fetus. However, during pregnancy (especially in the first trimester), the drug should be prescribed with caution.
Safety of the drug during lactation has not been established. However, cases of unwanted effects in newborns have not been reported.
Composition
1 suppository contains:
Active substances: hyoscine butyl bromide – 10 mg.
Excipients: purified water – 10 mg, solid fat W45 – 1610 mg.
Dosage and administration
Rectally (suppositories), unless otherwise prescribed, for adults and children over 6 years of age – 1-2 supp. 3 times a day.
Suppositories should be removed from the membrane and inserted into the rectum with the pointed end forward.
Duration of use is determined by the doctor.
Side effects
Side effect associated with the anticholinergic action of the drug: dry mouth, dry skin, tachycardia, drowsiness, paresis of accommodation, difficulty urinating (usually mild and goes away on its own).
Allergic reactions: skin rash.
In rare cases: difficulty breathing
Drug Interaction
Buscopan can enhance the anticholinergic action of tricyclic and tetracyclic antidepressants, antihistamines, quinidine, amantadine, disopyramide, anticholinergic drugs (e.g.
Concurrent administration of Buskopan ® and dopamine antagonists (eg, metoclopramide) leads to a weakening of the gastrointestinal tract of both drugs.
Buskopan can increase tachycardia caused by beta-adrenomimetics.
Overdose
Symptoms: urinary retention, dry mouth, redness of the skin, tachycardia, inhibition of gastrointestinal motility, transient visual impairment.
Treatment: gastric lavage with activated carbon and then with 15% magnesium sulfate (with overdose of tablets). Symptoms of overdose are stopped by cholinomimetics.
Patients with glaucoma are topically prescribed pilocarpine in the form of eye drops.
If necessary, cholinomimetics are systemically administered, for example neostigmine 0.5 2, 5 mg / m or in / in.
Cardiovascular complications are treated according to the usual therapeutic rules.
Intubation, IVL is indicated in paralysis of respiratory muscles. In case of urinary retention catheterize the bladder.
Supportive therapy is performed.
