Pharmacological action
Nystatin – fungistatic.
Binding to sterols in the cell wall of fungi, violates its permeability, which leads to the release of the main components of the cell. It is active against yeast-like fungi of the genus Candida, including Candida albicans. It does not have cumulative properties.
Pharmacokinetics
Poorly absorbed from the digestive tract. The bulk of the drug taken orally is excreted in the feces. When applied topically through the mucous membranes, it is not absorbed.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity, impaired liver function, pancreatitis, peptic ulcer and 12 duodenal ulcer, pregnancy.
Use during pregnancy and lactation
Although nystatin is absorbed in small quantities, it is not known whether it is excreted in breast milk, so if you need to use it during lactation, you should decide whether to stop breastfeeding.
Composition
Active ingredients: nystatin 500 000 UNITS
Excipients: propoxy ether of paraoxybenzoic acid, edible citric acid, liquid paraffin, vitepsol N-15, vitepsol W-35.
Dosage and administration
Rectally, deep into the rectum 1 suppository 2 times a day (morning and evening). The course of treatment is 10-14 days. The duration of treatment and the need for repeated courses are determined by the doctor.
Side effects
Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, sometimes fever, chills. There is a risk of the spread of resistant forms of fungi (requires discontinuation of the drug).
Drug Interaction
When concurrently used with nystatin with clotrimazole, the activity of the latter decreases.
