Pharmacological action
Combined topical preparation, has anti-inflammatory (dehydrating) and antimicrobial effects, is active against gram-positive and gram-negative microorganisms (staphylococci, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Escherichia coli).
Easily penetrates deep into tissues without damaging biological membranes, stimulates regeneration processes.
In the presence of pus and necrotic masses, the antibacterial effect persists.
Indications
Purulent wounds (including those infected with mixed microflora) in the first (purulent necrotic) phase of the wound process.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to the components of the drug for children under 1 year of age (in newborns, biotransformation of chloramphenicol is slower than in adults).
Use during pregnancy and lactation
The drug is contraindicated in pregnancy. When pregnancy occurs, the drug should be stopped immediately.
If you need to use the drug during lactation, you should decide whether to stop breastfeeding.
Special instructions
Does not affect the ability to drive vehicles and work with
mechanisms.
Dosage and Administration
Topically. The drug is impregnated with sterile gauze napkins, which loosely fill the wound. It is possible to introduce into the purulent cavity through a catheter (drainage tube) using a syringe.
In this case, the ointment is preheated to 35-36 ° C. Dressings are performed daily, once a day, until the wound is completely cleansed of purulent-necrotic masses.
With large wound surfaces, the daily dose of ointment in terms of chloramphenicol should not exceed 3 g.
The duration of treatment depends on the severity and course of the disease.
Side effects
Allergic reactions (skin rashes).

Cases of interaction or incompatibility with other drugs are not described.
Overdose
No cases of overdose of Levomekol ® ointment have been reported.
