Pharmacological action

Adapalen represents a new generation of synthetic retinoids and is a derivative of naphthoic acid.

Adapalen has a sebostatic, comedonolytic / anti-comedogenic and anti-inflammatory effect.

The drug acts on follicular hyperkeratosis, regulating the process of keratinization and desquamation – it has a pronounced comedonolytic activity (affects open and closed comedones) and an anti-comedogenic effect (prevents the formation of micro comedones).

The main mechanism of action is the selective binding of epidermal cells to nuclear RAg receptors in contrast to the indiscriminate binding of retinoids of previous generations.

This mechanism regulates the final differentiation of keratinocytes, which ensures the normalization of the keratinization process and a decrease in the prerequisites for the formation of micro comedones.

The pronounced anti-inflammatory effect of adapalene is proved: inhibition of lipoxygenase, arichidonic acid, cytokines. Adapalene does not have a photosensitizing effect.
