Pharmacological action
PK-Merz – anti-Parkinsonian drug.
The drug stimulates the release of dopamine from neuronal depots and increases the sensitivity of dopamine receptors to the mediator (dopamine) in this way, even with a decrease in the formation of dopamine in the basal ganglia, conditions are created to normalize the neurophysiological processes that occur in them. It inhibits the generation of impulses in motor neurons of the central nervous system.
Indications
Parkinson’s disease (stiffness, tremor, hypokinesia)
parkinsonism (intensive primary treatment in severe and life-threatening cases, including akinetic crises)
extrapyramidal disorders caused by other neuroptyrrheptic drugs or deprived.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to the drug. Glaucoma, prostate adenoma. Psychomotor agitation. The states of predelirium and delirium, a history of psychosis. Epilepsy, thyrotoxicosis, acute and chronic diseases of the liver and kidneys. Pregnancy (1 trimester) and the period of breastfeeding.
Special instructions
Treatment for PK-Merz should not be stopped suddenly, as this can lead to worsening symptoms.
Patients suffering from cardiovascular diseases should be under constant medical supervision when prescribing PK-Merz.
Alcohol is contraindicated during treatment.
Influence on the ability to drive vehicles and work with mechanisms. Use with caution while working for vehicle drivers and people, whose profession is associated with increased concentration of attention.
Composition of
500 ml of the solution contains 200 mg of amantadine sulfate.
Dosage and administration
PK-Merz is administered iv, 500 ml 1-2 times a day for 3 hours at a rate of 55 drops per minute.
Side effects
From the nervous system and sensory organs: mental disorders accompanied by visual hallucinations, motor or mental agitation, dizziness, sleep disturbances, decreased visual acuity (very rare).
From the cardiovascular system and blood (hematopoiesis, hemostasis): heart failure, arrhythmia, tachycardia.
From the digestive tract: dry mouth, nausea.
From the genitourinary system: urinary retention (in patients with prostate adenoma).
Other: very rarely – the appearance of a bluish coloration of the skin of the upper and lower extremities.

Overdose
Symptoms: nausea, vomiting, tremor, ataxia, decreased visual acuity, lethargic condition, dysarthria, epileptic seizures, arrhythmia.
Treatment: gastric lavage, intake of activated carbon, symptomatic therapy.
