Pharmacological action
Bisacodyl – laxative.
Irritating receptors of the mucous membrane of the colon and enhances peristalsis. Stimulates the excretion of water and electrolytes into the intestinal lumen and blocks their reabsorption.
Indications
Hypotonic and atonic constipation (including constipation in the elderly constipation after surgery and childbirth).
Regulation of the stool (hemorrhoids, proctitis, anal fissures).
Preparation for surgical operations, instrumental and radiological examinations.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to the drug Bisacodyl,
intestinal obstruction,
strangulated hernia,
acute inflammatory diseases of the abdominal cavity,
peritonitis, gastrointestinal, srdlkrd, gastrointestinal acute hemorrhoids,
colon carcinoma.
Use during pregnancy and lactation
Caution during pregnancy and lactation.
Dosage and administration
Inside, at bedtime or 30 minutes before breakfast, adults and children over 14 years old – 5-15 mg, children 8-14 years old – 5-10 mg for children 3-7 years old – 5 mg. The tablets are swallowed without chewing and washed down with a small amount of water.
Side effects
Nausea, pain and bloating, a feeling of heaviness, intestinal colic, in rare cases, the appearance of mucus and blood during and after stool. With prolonged use: dehydration, loss of electrolytes (especially potassium), intestinal atony.
Drug Interaction
Co-administration with antacids can lead to premature dissolution of the intestinal membrane of the drug and irritation of the stomach and duodenum.
It is not recommended to take milk and alkaline mineral water at the same time.
Overdose
Symptoms: diarrhea, dehydration, impaired electrolyte balance, hypokalemia, colon atony.
Treatment: symptomatic.
