Pharmacological action of
Suprastin is a histamine H1 receptor blocker derived from ethylenediamine. Prevents development and facilitates the course of allergic reactions. It has a moderate sedative and pronounced antipruritic effect. It has peripheral anticholinergic activity, moderate antispasmodic properties.

Contraindications

Precautions: angle-closure glaucoma, urinary retention, prostatic hyperplasia, impaired liver and / or kidney function, cardiovascular disease, elderly patients.
Special instructions
Caution is advised to use the drug in elderly patients with insufficient liver function and / or heart disease. With extreme caution, the drug should be prescribed orally for angle-closure glaucoma, in patients with urinary retention and prostatic hypertrophy.
When taken overnight, the drug may increase the symptoms of reflux esophagitis.
Suprastin should be prescribed with caution along with sedatives, tranquilizers, analgesics, MAO inhibitors, tricyclic antidepressants, atropine and / or sympatholytics.
Alcohol should not be consumed during treatment.
Influence on the ability to drive vehicles and control mechanisms
In the initial, individually defined period of Suprastin use, driving vehicles and engaging in other potentially dangerous activities that require quick psychomotor reactions are not allowed. In the course of further treatment, the degree of restriction is determined depending on the individual tolerance of the drug.
Composition
1 tablet contains chloropyramine hydrochloride 25 mg
excipients: lactose, starch, talc, sodium amylopectin, gelatin, stearic acid.
Dosage and administration
Adults are prescribed 25 mg (1 tab.) 3-4 times a day (75-100 mg / day).
For children: aged 3 to 6 years – 1/2 table. 2 times a day from 6 to 14 years – 1/2 table. (12.5 mg) 2-3 times a day.
Tablets should be taken after meals.
Side effects
From the side of the central nervous system: lethargy, drowsiness, weakness, slight tremors, dizziness are possible. In children, some stimulating effect on the central nervous system is possible, manifested by anxiety, increased irritability, and insomnia.
From the digestive system: dry mouth, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, or constipation are possible.
From the cardiovascular system: rarely – lowering blood pressure (more often in elderly patients), tachycardia, arrhythmia.
Allergic reactions: skin rash, itching are possible.
Other: rarely – difficulty urinating.
Drug Interactions
With simultaneous use, Suprastin enhances the effects of anesthetics, sleeping pills, tranquilizers, analgesics, MAO inhibitors, tricyclic antidepressants, atropine and sympatholytics.
With the simultaneous use of Suprastin and caffeine or phenamine, a decrease or elimination of the inhibitory effect of Suprastin on the central nervous system is noted.
Overdose
Symptoms similar to those of atropine intoxication may occur.
Treatment: There are no specific antidotes, so symptomatic treatment is performed.
Gastric lavage (up to 12 hours after the administration of Suprastin) requires gastric lavage (it should be noted that gastric emptying is hindered by the anticholinergic effect of the drug). Activated carbon is also shown.
Blood pressure and respiration parameters must be monitored.
