Pharmacological action
It has a pronounced anti-inflammatory, anti-allergic and desensitizing effect. Dexamethasone actively suppresses inflammatory processes, inhibiting the release of inflammatory mediators by eosinophils, mast cell migration and reducing capillary permeability.
The drug does not have mineralocorticoid activity.
Indications
Allergic blepharitis.
Allergic conjunctivitis.
Allergic keratoconjunctivitis.
Acute and chronic iritis.
Iridocyclitis.
Prevention and treatment of inflammatory reactions in the postoperative period.
Thermal and chemical burn (after complete epithelization of corneal defects).
Contraindications
Viral, bacterial and fungal infections of the eyes.
Corneal diseases associated with defects in the epithelium.
Hypersensitivity to the drug.
Use during pregnancy and lactation
During pregnancy, Maxidex should be prescribed only when the expected therapeutic effect outweighs the potential risk to the fetus or baby.
If necessary, the appointment of the drug during lactation should interrupt breastfeeding.
Composition of
In 1 ml of suspension, eye drops 0.1% contains:
Active ingredients
dexamethasone 1 mg.
Excipients: hydroxypropyl methylcellulose – 0.5% distilled water preservative: benzalkonium chloride – 0.01%
Dosage and administration of
The drug is instilled 1-2 drops in the conjunctival sac of the affected eye (or eyes) every 3-6 hours.
Side effects
From the side of the organ of vision: with long-term local use of corticosteroids, there may be: increased intraocular pressure with the possible subsequent development of glaucoma, the formation of posterior subcapsular cataracts, slowing the healing process (for diseases that cause thinning of the cornea or sclera, perforation of the fibrous membrane is possible).
After the use of drugs containing corticosteroids, the development of a secondary infection (including fungal infection) may occur as a result of suppression of the protective reaction of the patient. In acute purulent diseases, the eyes of corticosteroids can mask or enhance the existing infection process. The appearance on the cornea of non-healing ulcers after prolonged treatment with steroid drugs may indicate the development of fungal invasion.
Overdose
There have been no reports of overdose with Maksidex at this time.
Storage conditions
The drug should be stored at a temperature of 8 ° to 30 ° C.
Expiration
Expiration is 3 years. After opening the vial, the drug should be used within 4 weeks.
