Description
Pharmacological action
Fipronil is a broad-spectrum insecto-acaricide from the group of phenylpyrazoles, poorly soluble in water. It blocks GABA-dependent parasite receptors, disrupts the transmission of nerve impulses in arthropods, but does not exert such an effect on mammalian GABA receptors. When applied to the skin of an animal, the drug is practically not absorbed into the systemic circulation and is evenly distributed over the surface of the body during the day, accumulating in the sebaceous glands of the skin and, thus, protecting domestic animals from ectoparasites. Fiprist Spot It belongs to moderately hazardous substances by the degree of impact on the body of warm-blooded animals. Eye contact causes slight irritation. The drug is toxic to rabbits, fish and other aquatic organisms.
Indications
Assign to dogs and cats for therapeutic and preventive purposes against fleas, lice, gnats, ixodid ticks, heiletiella and otodectheses (causative agents of ear scabies).
Contraindications
Increased individual sensitivity to the components of the drug. Puppies and kittens under the age of 8 weeks, weakened and sick animals cannot be treated. For the treatment of otodectosis in cases of perforation of the tympanic membrane, the use of the drug is prohibited.
Special instructions
When handling the product, do not drink, smoke or eat. In case of accidental contact with the product on the skin or mucous membranes, it must immediately be washed off with a stream of water or removed with a swab and then washed with water. At the end of the treatment, hands should be thoroughly washed with warm water and soap.
Composition
Fiprist Spot It contains 10% fipronil as an active ingredient, as well as auxiliary components: povidone, polysorbate, butylhydroxyanazole, butylhydrotoluene and dimethyl sulfoxide.
Dosage and administration
Fiprist Spot It is applied topically and topically by single application to dry intact skin in one (between the shoulder blades) or several points in the back at a dose of 1 pipette per animal. Depending on the weight, pipettes with different amounts of preparation are used for processing animals:
Type of animals Weight, kg Amount of preparation in 1 pipette, ml
Cats Regardless of weight 0.5
Dogs 2 – 10 0.67
10 – 20 1.34
20 – 40 2.68
More than 40 kg 4.02
If the dog weighs more than 60 kg, then 2 pipettes intended for dogs from 20 to 40 kg should be used for processing. The protective effect of the drug against ticks is 1 month (for cats 15-21 days), against insects – 2-2.5 months (for cats 1.5 months). For the treatment of otodectosis (scabies) in animals, the ear canal is cleaned of crusts and scabs in a dry way, without the use of special hygiene products and lotions for the ears. The drug is instilled in both ears for 4-6 drops, even if only one ear is affected. For uniform distribution of the drug, the auricle is folded in half and lightly massaged on its base, and the remainder of the drugcan be applied to the skin between the shoulder blades. Processing is carried out once. In advanced cases of otodectosis complicated by otitis media, antibacterial and anti-inflammatory drugs are prescribed. The drug can be used in pregnant and lactating females. Washing animals with shampoo or swimming in natural reservoirs is allowed no earlier than 2 days after treatment.
Side effects of
In hypersensitive animals, allergic reactions are rare in rare cases. In such cases, the use of the drug is stopped, and the remnants of it on the skin are removed with a cotton swab and washed with water, if necessary, desensitizing therapy is prescribed.
