Pharmacological action

Laticort – a synthetic non-halogenated corticosteroids for external use. It has a quick anti-inflammatory, decongestant, antipruritic and anti-allergic effect. Due to local vasoconstrictor action, it reduces exudative reactions.

The use of Laticort in recommended doses does not suppress the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal system.

Indications

Uninfected, sensitive to local corticosteroids skin diseases occurring with excessive keratinization: – seborrheic dermatitis

– atopic dermatitis

– erythroderma

– contact eczema

– psoriasis

– lichen planus.

Insect bites.

Contraindications

– bacterial, viral and fungal infections of the skin

– acne vulgaris, rosacea

– perioral dermatitis

– violation of the integrity of the skin (wounds, ulcers)

– skin tumors

– tuberculosis or syphilitic skin lesions

– post-vaccination period

– children up to 6 months, with itching in the anus – up to 12 years

– hypersensitivity to the components of the drug Licort.

Precautions should be prescribed for diabetes mellitus, tuberculosis (systemic damage).

Use during pregnancy and lactation

Use of the drug Laticort® in pregnant women is allowed in cases where, according to the opinion of the attending physician, the potential benefit for the pregnant woman prevails over the possible risk to the fetus. In these cases, the application should be short-lived and limited to small areas of the skin. It is not recommended for use in the first trimester of pregnancy.

During breastfeeding, it should be used briefly on a small surface of the skin and should not be used on the skin of the mammary gland.

Special instructions

Avoid contact with LaticortВ® in the eyes.

In the event of the development of a secondary bacterial or fungal infection, an external antibacterial or antifungal agent must be prescribed.

With extreme caution, you should use the drug on the skin of the face due to the possibility of side effects (telangiectasia, atrophy, perioral dermatitis).

If after 7 days of use there is no improvement or deterioration is observed, as well as in the case of the resumption of symptoms a few days after withdrawal, the use of the drug should be discontinued and consult a doctor.

Although the use of the drug in high doses for a long time, especially when using occlusive dressings, can lead to an increase in cortisol in the blood plasma, this is never accompanied by a decrease in the reactivity of the pituitary-adrenal system, and drug withdrawal leads to a quick normalization of cortisol production.

Use with caution in cases of pre-existing atrophic skin conditions, especially in the elderly.

The risk of side effects when using LaticortВ® is lower, than when using halogenated corticosteroids.

LaticortВ® ointment is recommended for subacute inflammatory conditions and lichenification.

Influence on the ability to drive vehicles and control mechanisms

The use of the drug does not limit the psychophysical abilities of the patient, the ability to drive vehicles and maintain machinery in motion.

Dosage and administration

Applied externally.

In adults, a small amount of Laticort is applied to the affected skin 1-3 times / day. The course of treatment is 1-3 weeks. The dose of the drug used during the week should not exceed 30-60 g. To improve penetration, the drug is applied with massaging movements. In cases of a resistant course of diseases, for example, when localizing dense psoriatic plaques on the elbows, knees, the drug must be used under occlusive dressings.

In children, Laticort is used from 6 months of age.

In childhood, suppression of adrenal cortex function may develop faster. In addition, a decrease in growth hormone excretion may be observed. When using the drug for a long time, it is necessary to monitor body weight, height, plasma cortisol level. In control studies in children who received 30-60 g of Laticort® ointment weekly, there were no dysfunctions of the adrenal cortex.

When using Laticort on the face or under occlusive dressings (diapers, diapers) possibly a large degree of absorption, so it is recommended to apply the minimum dose of the drug. Treatment should be carried out briefly and under the supervision of a physician.

Side effects

Side effects are rare and reversible.

Local reactions: rarely – skin irritation.

With prolonged use and / or application of Laticort on large surfaces, when using occlusive dressings, acne-like changes, hypopigmentation, sweating, folliculitis, striae, skin atrophy, hypertrichosis and secondary skin infections are rare.

In rare cases, allergic contact dermatitis may develop.

Drug Interactions

Data on the drug interaction of Laticort® with other agents are not available.

Overdose

There is no data on an overdose of Laticort®. With prolonged use of the drug in large doses, symptoms of hypercorticism may occur.

Treatment: carry out symptomatic therapy against the background of gradual withdrawal of the drug.
