Pharmacological action
Blocker of m-cholinergic receptors. It has a local antispasmodic effect on the smooth muscles of the internal organs (gastrointestinal tract, biliary tract, urinary tract), reduces the secretion of digestive glands. The local antispasmodic effect is explained by the ganglion-blocking and m-anticholinergic activity of the drug.
Being a quaternary ammonium derivative, hyoscine butyl bromide does not penetrate the BBB, therefore there is no anticholinergic effect on the central nervous system.
Indications
Renal colic.
Biliary colic.
Spastic biliary dyskinesia and gall bladder.
Cholecystitis.
Intestinal colic.
Pylorospasm.
Peptic ulcer of the stomach and duodenum in the acute phase (as part of complex therapy).
Algodismenorea.
Contraindications

Use during pregnancy and lactation
Data on the use of the drug during pregnancy and the penetration of the drug and its metabolites into breast milk are limited.
No studies on the effect of the drug on fertility have been conducted.
As a precaution, the use of the drug during pregnancy and lactation is not recommended.
Composition
1 tablet contains:
Active ingredients: hyoscine butyl bromide – 10 mg
Excipients: calcium hydrogen phosphate (calcium hydrogen phosphate anhydrous) – 33 mg, dried corn starch – 30 mg, starch – 2 mg potato starch colloidal silicon dioxide – 4 mg, tartaric acid – 0.5 mg, stearic acid – 0.5 mg
Shell composition: povidone (polyvinylpyrrolidone) – 0.505 mg, sucrose – 41.182 mg, talc – 23.671 mg, acacia gum (Arabian gum) – 2.761 mg, titanium dioxide – 1.802 mg, macrogol 6000 (polyet ilenglycol) – 0,055 mg, carnauba wax – 0,012 mg, beeswax white (white wax) – 0, 012 mg.
Dosage and administration of
Adults and children 6 years of age and older: 1-2 tablets are prescribed 3-5 times a day.
Tablets should be taken orally with water.
The drug should not be used daily for more than 3 days without consulting a doctor.
Side effects
Dry mouth, dry skin, tachycardia, drowsiness, paresis of accommodation, urinary retention is possible, which is usually not expressed and resolves independently.
Very rarely – hypersensitivity reactions with skin manifestations, very rarely reported onset of shortness of breath.
Drug Interaction
Buscopan ® may enhance the anticholinergic action of tricyclic and tetracyclic antidepressants, antihistamines, quinidine, amantadine, disopyramide, anticholinergic drugs (e.g.
Concurrent administration of Buskopan ® and dopamine antagonists (eg, metoclopramide) leads to a weakening of the gastrointestinal tract of both drugs.
Buscopan ® may increase tachycardia caused by beta-adrenomimetics.
Overdose
Symptoms: urinary retention, dry mouth, redness of the skin, tachycardia, suppression of gastrointestinal motility, transient visual impairment.
Treatment: gastric lavage with activated carbon and then with 15% magnesium sulfate (with overdose of tablets). Symptoms of overdose are stopped by cholinomimetics. Patients with glaucoma are topically prescribed pilocarpine in the form of eye drops. If necessary, cholinomimetics are administered systemically, for example, neostigmine 0.5-2.5 mg / m or v / c. Cardiovascular complications are treated according to the usual therapeutic rules. In respiratory paralysis, intubation, IVL is indicated. In case of urinary retention catheterize the bladder. Supportive therapy is carried out.
