Pharmacological action
Troximethacin gel is a combined preparation for local use, which includes indomethacin and troxerutin.
Indomethacin has a pronounced anti-inflammatory, analgesic and anti-edematous effect, leading to pain relief, reduction of edema and shortened recovery time of affected tissues.
The main mechanism of action is associated with the suppression of prostaglandin synthesis by reversible blockade of cyclooxygenase 1 and 2. Troxerutin (trihydroxyethylrutinoside) is a bioflavonoid. It has an angioprotective effect. Reduces capillary permeability and exhibits venotonic effect. It blocks the venodilating effect of histamine, bradykinin and acetylcholine.
It acts anti-inflammatory on the peritoneal tissue, reduces capillary fragility and has some antiaggregant effect. Reduces swelling, improves trophism in various pathological changes associated with venous insufficiency.
Troximethacin gel, when applied to the skin, suppresses the inflammatory edematous reaction, reduces pain and temperature in the foci of inflammation located on the surface and in depth, reaching the blood vessels located there. It has a pronounced venotonic, capillaroprotective effect.
Indications
For symptomatic treatment: – in the complex treatment of chronic venous insufficiency of the lower extremities (varicose veins) – to relieve swelling, heaviness and leg pain
– superficial thrombophlebitis, phlebitis postphlebitis – rheumatic disease of soft tissues: fibrositis periarthritis
– postoperative edema, concussion, dislocation, sprain.
Contraindications
– Hypersensitivity to the components of the drug Troximethacin
– hypersensitivity to non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs)
– III trimester of pregnancy and lactation period
– from the age of 14 years without clinical use () integument.
Precautions: Concomitant use of the drug with other NSAIDs, asthma, allergic rhinitis, polyps of the nasal mucosa.
Special instructions
The drug should be applied only to undamaged areas of the skin, avoid contact with eyes and mucous membranes. After applying the drug, do not apply an occlusive dressing.
In case of contact with eyes, mucous membranes or open wound surfaces, local irritation is observed – tearing, redness, burning, pain. Necessary measures in this case are washing the affected area with copious amounts of distilled water or saline until the complaints disappear or decrease.
Sodium benzoate and dimethyl sulfoxide contained in troximetacin gel as excipients can be irritating to the skin.
Effect on the ability to drive vehicles and mechanisms:
The drug does not affect the ability to perform potentially dangerous activities that require increased concentration of attention and speed of psychomotor reactions (including driving, working with moving mechanisms).
Composition
gel for external use Troximethacin 1 g:
– indomethacin 30 mg
– troxerutin 20 mg
excipients:
carbomer 15 mg,
disodium edetate 0.5 mg, srdlpg sodium 400 522 mg,
isopropanol 150 mg,
dimethyl sulfoxide 150 mg,
purified water 110 mg.
Dosage and administration
Troximetacin gel is applied externally. 3-4 times a day by rubbing the gel with a thin layer into the skin of painful areas of the body. The amount required for one rubbing is about 4-5 cm of gel squeezed from the tube.
The total daily amount should not exceed 20 cm of gel.
Duration of treatment should not exceed 10 days.
Side effects
Local reactions:
Symptoms of skin sensitivity may occur – contact dermatitis, itching, redness, rash, sensation of warmth and burning sensation at the site of use.
Overdose
There are no data on overdose cases with topical application.
If you accidentally swallow large amounts of the drug, you may have a burning sensation in the mouth, salivation, nausea, and vomiting.
Treatment: rinsing the mouth and stomach,if necessary, symptomatic treatment.
