Pharmacological action
Pharmacotherapeutic group: antiseptic agent for external use. A 5% alcohol iodine solution has an antimicrobial, irritating, distracting effect, accelerates wound healing. When applied to the skin from the drug, active iodine is slowly and evenly released, which oxidizes the amino acids of enzymes and transmembrane proteins of pathogenic microorganisms.
According to the degree of exposure to the body, a 5% alcohol iodine solution is classified as moderately hazardous (hazard class 3 according to GOST 12.1.007-76).
Indications
Assign as an antiseptic, hemostatic agent for treating the surgical field, surgical sutures, places for parenteral administration of drugs (injections) and the surgeon’s fingers during the initial treatment of fresh wounds, for the treatment of infected wounds, injuries, abrasions, cuts, furunculosis, abscesses and fistulas as a distracting and irritating remedy for chronic inflammation of the joints, tendons, muscles.
Contraindications
Contraindication for the use of alcohol iodine solution 5% is the individual hypersensitivity of the animal to iodine-containing drugs.
Recommendations for use
A solution of 5% alcohol iodine is used externally. The surface treatment of the skin is carried out once. Lubricate the affected areas of the skin along the edges of the wound with gauze or cotton swabs dipped in a solution of 5% alcohol iodine, without applying to the wound. When processing the surgical field, the skin is twice wiped with a sterile gauze swab dipped in iodine solution.
For distraction, a solution of iodine alcohol 5% is applied to the skin in the form of a grid.
When using a solution of iodine alcohol 5% according to the instructions, symptoms of overdose in animals are not detected. It is advisable not to carry out repeated treatment during the day, since an excess of active iodine can cause a chemical burn.
Features of the action of a solution of alcohol iodine 5% during the first use and cancellation is not installed.
Pregnant animals, newborns and young animals should use iodine solution with caution in order to avoid chemical burns.
Frequent use of 5% iodine solution is not provided. An increase in the intervals between treatments does not affect the effectiveness of treatment.
Special instructions
Alcohol iodine solution 5% is pharmaceutically incompatible with essential oils, ammonia solutions. When combined with yellow mercury ointment, the formation of mercury iodide with a cauterizing effect is possible.
Products of animal origin obtained from animals after treatment with an iodine solution of alcohol 5% are used without restrictions.
Composition
A solution of alcohol iodine 5% – a drug in the form of a solution, 100 ml contains 5 g of crystalline iodine as the active substance, potassium iodide, ethyl alcohol (ethanol) and purified water 1: 1 as excipients.
Side effects
When used correctly, side effects are usually not observed. With repeated and frequent lubrication with an iodine solution during the day, as well as with prolonged use on extensive surfaces, inflammatory reactions and skin burns, as well as iodism phenomena, that is, iodine poisoning (urticaria, rhinitis, salivation, lacrimation, lacrimation, swelling of the eyelids) are possible.

A solution of 5% alcohol iodine is stored in the manufacturer s packaging, separately from food and feed, in a dry place protected from direct sunlight at a temperature of 0 ° C to 25 ° C.
