Pharmacological action
Tardiferon retard compensates for the deficiency of iron in the body, which is necessary for the synthesis of hemoglobin.
Mucoproteosis – a mucopolysaccharide obtained from the intestinal mucosa, provides better tolerance to the drug and increases the bioavailability and the gradual release of ferrous iron (Fe 2+) from the drug.
Ascorbic acid improves iron absorption. After taking the drug, iron absorption occurs mainly in the distal small intestine. The maximum concentration of iron ion in blood plasma is reached 7 hours after taking the drug and remains elevated throughout the day.
On average, 10-20% of the dose taken is absorbed. Absorption increases with a decrease in iron stores in the body.
Indications
Treatment and prevention of iron deficiency conditions caused by:
– Pregnancy.
– Lactation.
– Impaired absorption of iron from the gastrointestinal tract.
– Prolonged bleeding.
– Defective and unbalanced diet.
Contraindications
– Hypersensitivity to the components of the drug.
– Diseases accompanied by the accumulation of iron in the body: aplastic anemia, hemolytic anemia, thalassemia, hemosiderosis, hemochromatosis.
– Impaired iron uptake: sidereal anemia, lead anemia, pernicious anemia (vitamin B12 deficiency), childhood (up to 6 years).
Use during pregnancy and lactation
Pregnant women (II and III trimester of pregnancy) and lactating women are recommended to take 1 tablet every other day as a preventive measure.
Composition
1 tablet contains: ferrous sulfate II one and a half-aquatic 256.3 mg (corresponding to 80 mg of iron).
Excipients: mucoproteosis, ascorbic acid, potato starch, eudragit C, dibutyl fatalate, povidone, magnesium stearate, castor oil, magnesium trisilicate.
Shell composition: talc, eudragit E, titanium dioxide, starch, wax, paraffin, sucrose.
Dosage and administration of
The drug is taken orally after a meal. The duration of therapy is determined individually by the doctor. Adults – 1-2 tablets per day. For pregnant women (II and III trimester of pregnancy) and lactating women, it is recommended to take 1 tablet every other day as a preventive measure.
Drug Interactions
While taking Tardiferon with antacids, tetracycline antibiotics and penicillamine, iron absorption is impaired. With the simultaneous intake of ascorbic acid, iron absorption improves. Do not prescribe with other iron preparations, including for parenteral use, in order to avoid overdose.
Overdose
Symptoms: nausea, vomiting, diarrhea.
Treatment: in case of suspected overdose, it is necessary to carry out a study of serum iron content and serum ferritin level, gastric lavage, appoint milk and raw eggs to enhance the binding of iron ions to the gastrointestinal tract and their subsequent removal. In case of a significant excess of normal serum ferritin, the appointment of an iron chelator (desferal) is required.
