Description
Pharmacological action
Marfloxin 2% solution for injection belongs to the antibacterial drugs of the fluoroquinolone group.
The drug has a wide spectrum of bactericidal action, based on the suppression of bacterial enzymes of DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV involved in the replication of DNA of microorganisms.
Marbofloxacin, the active substance of Marfloxin 2% solution for injection, is active against gram-positive and gram-negative microorganisms, including Escherichia coli, Salmonella typhimurium, Citrobacter freundii, Enterobacter cloacae, Serratia marcescens, Morganella morganii, Proteus spp, Klebsiella spp, Shigella spp, Pasteurella spp, Haemophilus spp, Moraxella spp, Pseudomiocococas spp, Pseudomrucomocasppp .
After intramuscular and subcutaneous administration of the drug at a dose of 2 mg / kg, marbofloxacin is well absorbed from the injection site and penetrates into most organs and tissues of the body. The bioavailability of marbofloxacin is more than 80%. The maximum concentration of marbofloxacin, about 0.5 Ñg / ml in piglets and 1 Ñg / ml in calves, in plasma is reached after 0.5-1.5 hours. The maximum plasma concentration of marbofloxacin in dogs and cats with subcutaneous administration of the drug is 1.5 Ñg / ml with 2 mg / kg and 3 Ñg / ml with 4 mg / kg. Marbofloxacin weakly binds to plasma proteins: in pigs, dogs and cats – by 10%, in cattle – by 30%. The concentration of marbofloxacin in organs is higher than the concentration in blood plasma. The half-life in calves is 5 ² 9 hours, in cattle with cicatricial digestion, 4 ² 7 hours, in pigs, 8 ² 10 hours, and in dogs and cats, 13 hours. Marbofloxacin is excreted from the body of animals mainly unchanged with urine and feces.
Marfloxin 2% injection for the degree of exposure to the body refers to low-hazard substances (hazard class 4 according to GOST 12.1.007-76).

The duration of treatment for young cattle and pigs is 3 to 5 days.
In case of overdose in animals, disturbances in the activity of the nervous system can be observed. The treatment is symptomatic. Cats and dogs may experience symptoms of bradycardia.
Peculiarities of the action of the drug during its first use and withdrawal have not been identified.
Studies in laboratory animals (rats and rabbits) did not reveal teratogenic and embryotoxic effects, as well as the negative effects of marbofloxacin on reproductive function in female animals.
