Description

Pharmacological action

An agent for the treatment of baldness. It has a stimulating effect on hair growth in men and women with androgenic alopecia (male pattern baldness).

The appearance of signs of hair growth is noted after 4 months or more of the use of the drug 2 times / day. The onset and severity of the effect may vary in different patients. After the cancellation of minoxidil, the growth of new hair stops, and after 3-4 months, the original appearance can be restored.

The exact mechanism of action of minoxidil as a stimulator of hair growth in patients with androgenetic alopecia is unknown.

With systemic use, minoxidil has a vasodilating effect.

In controlled clinical trials after external use of minoxidil in patients with both normal and elevated blood pressure, there were no systemic side effects associated with systemic absorption of minoxidil.

Pharmacokinetics

When applied topically, minoxidil is poorly absorbed through normal intact skin: on average 1.4% (0.3-4.5%) of the total applied dose enters the systemic circulation. For external use, the concentration of minoxidil in serum is determined by the rate of absorption through the skin. After cessation of use, approximately 95% of minoxidil undergoing systemic absorption is excreted within 4 days.

Indications

Androgenic alopecia in men and women (in order to restore hairline or stabilize the process of hair loss).

Contraindications

Do not use during pregnancy and lactation (breast-feeding).

Special instructions

If systemic side effects occur (chest pain, palpitations, dizziness, decreased blood pressure, sudden weight gain, swelling of the hands and / or feet), as well as redness and irritation at the rubbing site, minoxidil should be canceled and, if necessary, appropriate therapy.

In some patients, after the use of minoxidil, a change in the color and structure of the hair was observed.
