Pharmacological action of
Pharmacodynamics of
With topical administration of minoxidil, it has been shown to have a stimulating effect on hair growth in individuals with androgenetic alopecia (hair thinning, alopecia). The appearance of signs of hair growth is noted after 4 or more months of using the drug 2 times a day. The onset and severity of the effect may vary in different patients.
After the termination of the use of the drug REGEYN, the growth of new hair stops, and within 3-4 months it is possible to restore the original appearance. The exact mechanism of action of the drug REGEYN in the treatment of androgenetic alopecia is unknown.
In controlled clinical trials after topical administration of REGEYN, there were no systemic side effects associated with absorption of minoxidil in patients with normal or in patients with high blood pressure.
Pharmacokinetics
When applied topically, minoxidil is poorly absorbed through normal intact skin: an average of 1.4% (0.3 – 4.5%) of the total applied dose enters the systemic circulation. When applying to the skin 1 ml of the drug REGEYN solution for external use of 5%, which corresponds to 50 mg of minoxidil, 0.70 mg of minoxidil is absorbed.
When applied externally, the level of minoxidil in the blood serum is determined by the rate of absorption through the skin.
After discontinuation of the drug, approximately 95% of minoxidil, which has entered the systemic circulation, displayed within 4 days.
Indications
Androgenetic alopecia in men and women (to restore hairline or stabilize the process of hair loss).
Contraindications
– children and adolescents under 18 years of age
– hypersensitivity to minoxidil and other components.
The drug should not be applied with redness, inflammation, infection, soreness of the scalp (including with sunburn).
Pregnancy and lactation
Regein should not be used during pregnancy and lactation.
Special instructions
In addition to the hereditary predisposition, hair loss can also be caused by other reasons. Regein does not prevent hair loss caused by certain drugs, malnutrition (iron or vitamin A deficiency in the body), as well as hair loss as a result of styling in tight hairstyles.
The patient should be warned about the need to consult a doctor in cases where hair loss began suddenly, baldness is focal in nature and the patient has a pathology from the cardiovascular system.
If systemic side effects appear (chest pains, palpitations, dizziness, decreased blood pressure, sudden weight gain, swelling of the arms and / or legs), as well as redness and irritation at the rubbing site, the drug should be discontinued and appropriate therapy should be prescribed.
In case of contact with eyes, damaged skin or mucous membranes, immediately rinse the affected area with plenty of running cold water. Avoid inhalation of the drug when sprayed.
In some patients, after the use of the drug, a change in the color and structure of the hair was observed.
Avoid rinsing off the drug, hair can be wet no earlier than 4 hours after the application of Regein.
During the use of Regein, you can use hair care products (including hair spray). In this case, you should first apply the drug and let the treated area of ² ¹ ² ¹the skin dry completely, and then apply the care products.
According to current data, hair dyeing, perm or using conditioners do not reduce the effectiveness of Regein, provided that the drug is completely washed off the hair and scalp before performing these procedures.
Composition of
1 ml of solution contains:
Active ingredient:
minoxidil 50 mg
Excipients:
ethanol,
propylene glycol,
purified water.
Dosage and administration
Divide the hair in the middle so that you can access the scalp. For the effectiveness of the drug, it is important to apply it to the scalp, and not to the hair. Make sure your scalp and hands are dry.
Hold the spray aerosol upright and press on the tip to squeeze the foam – about half the cap.
Always use the recommended dose of 1 g.
Apply REGAINE ® foam to your scalp and massage gently. Wash your hands and you’re done!
Any massage on the affected area should be gentle to minimize exposure to weakened hair.
Side effects
Dermatological reactions: often – redness, itching, peeling of the skin of the scalp in some cases – hypertrichosis (undesirable growth of body hair, including facial hair growth in women).
The use of the drug can cause increased hair loss during the transition from the resting phase to the hair growth phase (this temporary phenomenon occurs 2-6 weeks after the start of therapy and gradually stops within 2 weeks).
From the cardiovascular system: in some cases – arterial hypotension.
The drug is well tolerated. In clinical trials in patients with normal or elevated blood pressure, topical application of Regein was not accompanied by systemic side effects.
Drug interaction
When applied to Regein’s skin and topical products containing tretinoin, anthralin / dithranol (which cause a change in the protective function of the skin), minoxidil absorption may increase.
overdose
An overdose is unlikely given the recommended route of administration and dosage regimen.
When taken accidentally, it should be taken into account that 5 ml of 2% and 2 ml of 5% of Regine contain 100 mg of minoxidil – the maximum recommended dose for adults in the treatment of hypertension.
Symptoms: systemic side effects associated with vasodilating properties of minoxidil (decreased blood pressure, tachycardia, dizziness, weight gain, syncope) may occur.
Treatment: the patient should be warned that in these cases it is necessary to urgently consult a doctor.
