Pharmacological action
Pimafucin – fungicidal, antifungal.
Pharmacodynamics
Natamycin irreversibly binds to the sterols of the cell membranes of fungi, disrupting the integrity and function, which leads to the death of microorganisms.
Most pathogenic yeasts, especially Candida albicans, are sensitive to natamycin. Dermatophytes are less sensitive to natamycin. Primary resistance to natamycin is not found in clinical practice.
Pharmacokinetics
Natamycin has only local action, not absorbed from the digestive tract, through the skin and mucous membranes.
Indications
Vaginitis, vulvitis, vulvovaginitis, balanoposthitis, caused mainly by Candida fungi.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to the components of the drug.

Pimafucin may be used during pregnancy and lactation.
Ingredients
1 vaginal suppository contains:
Active ingredient: natamycin 100 mg
Excipients: cetyl alcohol 690 mg, solid fat 700 mg, sorbitol 460 mg, polysorbate 80-460 mg, sodium carbonate hydrate 69 mg, adipic acid 64 mg.
Dosage and administration of
For vaginitis, vulvitis, vulvovaginitis – 1 suppository for 3-6 days. The suppository is injected into the vagina in the prone position, as deep as possible, 1 time per day at night. With the persistent course of vaginitis caused by Candida albicans, Pimafucin is additionally prescribed in the form of tablets for oral administration (1 tablet 4 times a day for 10 20 days) to sanitize the focus of candidal infection in the intestines. For the treatment of candidiasis of the genital organs of a partner, Pimafucin in the form of a cream is used. The duration of treatment is set individually. After the symptoms disappear, it is recommended to continue treatment for a few more days.
Side effects of
From the gastrointestinal tract: in some cases, when using enteric tablets, especially in the first days of treatment, nausea and diarrhea are possible, usually passing on their own.
Local reactions: possible slight irritation, burning sensation (when applying cream, vaginal suppositories).
