Pharmacological action of
Pharmacodynamics of
Nifuroxazide is an intestinal antiseptic derivative of 5-nitrofuran active against most pathogens of intestinal infections (including mutant strains resistant to other antimicrobial agents): gram-positive (family of erythematosus , Citrobacter, Enterobacter, Klebsiella, Salmonella, Shigella, Proteus, Yersinia), as well as Vibrio cholerae. He is active against bacteria of the genus Pseudomonas and the genus Proteus (species Proteus inconstans), as well as strains of subgroup A of the species Providentia alcalifaciens. It is assumed that the drug inhibits the activity of dehydrogenases and disrupts the synthesis of proteins in pathogenic bacteria. In medium therapeutic doses, it has bacteriostatic activity, and in higher doses it acts bactericidal. The effect is manifested from the first hours of treatment.
In therapeutic doses, it practically does not upset the equilibrium of the symbiotic bacterial flora of the intestine and does not cause the development of resistant strains of pathogenic microorganisms and the cross resistance of bacteria to other antimicrobial agents, which allows, if necessary, for generalized infections, to prescribe it in complex therapy with systemic drugs. With intestinal infections of viral origin, it prevents the development of bacterial superinfection.
Pharmacokinetics
After oral administration, it is practically not absorbed from the digestive tract, creating a high concentration of the active substance in the intestine. Due to such pharmacokinetic features, the drug has an exclusively enteric antiseptic effect, does not have systemic antibacterial activity, does not cause general toxic effects, is excreted from the body with feces. The drug does not affect the clinical and biochemical parameters of a blood test.

Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to nifuroxazide, a derivative of nitrofuran or any excipients of the
drug, fructose intolerance, glucose-galactose malabsorption syndrome or sucrose insufficiency and isomaltase
neonatal pregnancy 1 month preterm.
Use during pregnancy and lactation
No data are available on adverse effects on the fetus when using the drug during pregnancy.
If necessary, with caution, the drug can be prescribed to pregnant women and women who are breast-feeding.
Composition of
5 ml suspension contains:

nifuroxazide 220 mg.
Excipients:
carbomer – 11 mg,
sucrose – 1100 mg,
sodium hydroxide – 2.2 mg,
citric acid monohydrate – 0.83 mg,
simethicone emulsion 30% (anti-foam emulsion) – 11 mg,
methyl parahydroxybenzoate – 5.5 mg,
banana flavor – 4.57 mg,
water – up to 5 ml.
Dosage and administration of
Before taking the drug, shake the vial several times to make the suspension uniform.
The drug can be washed with water.
Children aged 1 to 6 months: 110 mg (1 small measured spoon of suspension) 2-3 times a day (interval between doses of 8-12 hours).
Children aged 6 months to 3 years: 110 mg (1 small measured spoon of suspension) 3 times a day (interval between doses 8 hours).
Children aged 3 to 6 years: 220 mg (1 large scoop of suspension) 3 times a day (interval between doses 8 hours).
Children ages 6 to 18: 220 mg (1 large measured spoon of suspension) 3-4 times a day (interval between doses 6-8 hours).
Adults: 220 mg (1 large scoop of suspension) 4 times a day (interval between doses 6 hours).
Stopdiar should be used for 5-7 days, but not more than 7 days. If during the first 3 days of taking no improvement, then you should consult a doctor.

Side effects
Allergic reactions (skin rash, urticaria, Quincke’s edema, anaphylactic shock).

Drug Interaction
It is not recommended to use concurrently with drugs that cause the development of disulfiram-like reactions, drugs that depress the function of the central nervous system.
