Pharmacological action
Broad-spectrum antimicrobial agent from the group of fluoroquinolones for topical use in ophthalmology. The bactericidal effect of ofloxacin is associated with the blockade of the DNA gyrase enzyme in bacterial cells.
Highly active against most gram-negative microorganisms:
Esherichia coli.
Salmonella spp.
Proteus spp.
Morganella morganii.
Shigella spp.
Klebsiella spp.
Enterobacter spp.
Serratia spp.
Citrobacter spp.
Yersinia spp.
Providencia spp.
Haemophilus influenzae.
Neisseria gonorrhoeae.
Neisseria meningitidis.
Mycoplasma spp.
Legionella pneumophila.
Acinetobacter spp.
Chlamydia spp.
Active against certain gram-positive microorganisms, in particular:
Staphylococcus spp.
Streptococcus spp.
Moderately susceptible to ofloxacin:
Enterococcus faecalis.
Streptococcus pneumoniae.
Pseudomonas spp.
Ofloxacin is susceptible to microorganisms producing -lactamase.
Anaerobic bacteria (except Bacteroides urealyticus) are insensitive to the drug.
Pharmacokinetics
When applied topically, a therapeutic concentration of the drug in the tissues of the eye is achieved.
Indications
Infectious and inflammatory diseases of the anterior part of the eye caused by microorganisms sensitive to ofloxacin:
Blepharitis.
Barley.
Conjunctivitis.
Dacryocystitis.
Keratitis.
Corneal ulcer.
Chlamydial infection of the eyes.
Prevention and treatment of bacterial infections after eye injuries and surgical interventions.
Use during pregnancy and lactation
There are no data on the negative effect of ofloxacin on the fetus, however, the drug is contraindicated for use during pregnancy and during lactation (breastfeeding).
Composition
In 1 g of eye ointment 0.3% contains:
Active ingredients
Ofloxacin 3 mg.
Excipients:
Liquid paraffin,
wool fat,
white petrolatum.
Dosage and administration
doses of 1.5 cm ointment strips laid over the lower eyelid of the affected eye 2-3 times / day. in case of chlamydial infection – 5 times / day.
It is not recommended to use the drug for more than 2 weeks.
With the simultaneous use of more than one drug, the ointment should be used last.
Side effects
Allergic reactions, transient conjunctival hyperemia, burning sensation, discomfort in the eyes, conjunctival itching and dryness, photophobia, lacrimation rarely – dizziness.

The drug interaction of Floxal has not been described.
Overdose
There is no data on an overdose of Floxal.
Storage conditions
The drug should be stored in a dark place at a temperature not exceeding 25 ° C.
