Description
Pharmacological action
Farmgroup: antiseptic.
Pharmaceutical action: Iodine in the form of a complex of polyvinylpyrrolidone iodine. The concentration of active iodine is 0.1-1%.
It has antiseptic, disinfectant, antifungal and antiprotozoal effects. Blocks the amino groups of cellular proteins. It has a wide range of antimicrobial effects.
Active against bacteria (including E. coli, Staphylococcus aureus), fungi, viruses, protozoa.
Polyvinylpyrrolidone iodine refers to iodophores that bind iodine. Upon contact with the skin and mucous membranes, iodine is gradually and evenly released, exerting a bactericidal effect on microorganisms. At the place of use, a thin colored layer remains, which remains until the entire amount of iodine is released.
Indications
Povidone-iodine solution for external use 10%: – treatment and prevention of wound infections in surgery, traumatology, combiology, dentistry
– treatment of bacterial, fungal and viral infections of the skin, prevention of superinfection in dermatological practice srdlkrof – treatment of pressure sores ulcers, diabetic foot
– disinfection of the skin and mucous membranes of patients in preparation for surgical interventions, invasive examinations (punctures, biopsies, injections, etc.)
– disinfection of the skin around the leg ditch, drainage, probes
– disinfection of the oral cavity during dental operations
– disinfection of the birth canal during “small” gynecological operations (artificial termination of pregnancy, the introduction of an intrauterine device, coagulation of erosion or polyp, etc.).

Composition
100 ml: povidone iodine 10 g
Excipients: nonoxynol, glycerol, disodium hydrogen phosphate 12-hydrate, citric acid, sodium hydroxide, demineralized water.
Dosage and administration
– For treating the skin and mucous membranes, it is used undiluted for lubrication, washing or in the form of a wet compress.
– For use in drainage systems, the solution is diluted 10 to 100 times.
Side effects of
When applied to a large wound surface and mucous membranes, systemic absorption of iodine can occur, which can affect thyroid functional activity tests and lead to the development of neutropenia.
In some cases, with hypersensitivity to the drug, a local manifestation of allergic reactions to iodine is possible (hyperemia, burning, itching, swelling, pain), requiring drug withdrawal.
Long-term use (more than 7–10 days) can cause the phenomenon of iodism (“metallic” taste in the mouth, excessive salivation, swelling of the eyes or larynx, etc.), which should stop the use of the drug and consult a doctor.
Drug Interactions
Incompatible with other disinfectants and antiseptics, especially those containing alkalis, enzymes and mercury. Activity decreases in an acidic environment.
Overdose
Symptoms: local irritation, allergic reactions.
Treatment: reduction in frequency of use or complete abandonment of the drug.
