Pharmacological action

Combined anthelmintic drug. It has a wide range of nematicidal and cestocidal effects on all phases of the development of round and ribbon helminths, parasitic in dogs and cats, including Toxocara canis, Toxocara cati, Toxascaris leonina, Uncinaria stenocephala, Ancylostoma caninum, Ancylostoma tubaeforme, Hydatigera taeniaeformis, Dipylidium caninum, Echinococcus granulosis, Echinococcus multilocularisinumipides, Dipylidocompidae, Dipylidium spp.

The mechanism of action of the active components included in the preparation is based on the inhibition of fumarate reductase, persistent depolarization of the helminth muscle cells, impaired energy metabolism, which causes paralysis and death of the parasite, contributes to its removal from the digestive tract.

Praziquantel acts on tapeworms (cestodes). Primarily, it causes muscle excitement, leading to spastic paralysis of the muscles of the parasite. This leads to vacuolization of the helminth cell membranes, which allows intestinal enzymes to act on the parasite, causing its death. When administered orally, praziquantel is rapidly absorbed in the intestine and distributed in organs and tissues, excreted mainly in the urine in a metabolized form.

Pyrantel is active against gastrointestinal nematodes. It is a neuromuscular ganglion blocker that causes persistent depolarization and spastic paralysis of roundworm muscles. Pyrantela embonate is partially absorbed in the intestine and excreted mainly with feces within 24-48 hours.
