Pharmacological action
Rifamycin antibiotic for topical use in otorhinolaryngology. The mechanism of action of rifamycin is associated with the formation of a stable complex with DNA-dependent RNA polymerase, which inhibits the growth of bacteria. Active against most gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria that cause the development of infectious and inflammatory diseases of the outer and middle ear.
Indications
Acute and chronic otitis media:
otitis externa
acute otitis media (including perforation of the eardrum)
chronic otitis media
condition after surgery on the middle ear.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to rifamycin.
Special instructions
Rifampicin-resistant strains are possible. Otof contains sulfites.
Composition
100 ml of ear drops contain:
Active ingredient: rifamycin sodium 2.6 g, which corresponds to 2,000,000 IU
Excipients: macrogol 400 – 25 g, ascorbic acid – 500 mg, disodium edetate – 12 mg, potassium disulfite – 150 mg, lithium hydroxide – 135 mg, purified water – up to 100 ml.
Dosage and administration
Otofa is applied topically by digging into the external auditory meatus before use and the bottle is warmed by holding it in his hand.
5 drops (for children – 3 drops) 3 times a day or twice a day is poured into the external auditory meatus for several minutes.
Course – 1-3 days (no more).
Side effects
Pink color of the eardrum (visible by otoscopy).
