Pharmacological action
Antiseptic. Sodium tetraborate has bacteriostatic activity. Effective for candidiasis. It removes the mycelium of the fungus from the mucous membranes, disrupts the process of attachment of the fungus to the mucous membranes and inhibits its reproduction (it is not an antifungal drug, because it does not have a fungicidal or fungistatic effect). As an antimicrobial drug, it is a part of combined preparations for the treatment of inflammatory diseases of the upper respiratory tract. Sodium tetraborate has insecticidal properties (class IV toxicity).
Indications
Candidiasis of the mucous membrane of the oral cavity, pharynx, upper respiratory tract, urinary tract and genitals, diaper rash, pressure sores.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity, pregnancy, lactation. Violation of the integrity of the skin (during skin treatment).

Special instructions
When monotherapy for vaginal candidiasis in order to increase effectiveness, it is necessary that medical procedures are carried out by medical personnel, otherwise, the fungal mycelium may linger in the crypts of the vaginal mucosa, which will lead to a relapse of the disease.

Dosage and administration
Sodium tetraborate is used to rinse, lubricate the skin, and douching 2-3 times a day.
Side effects
Hyperemia and burning sensation at the site of application of sodium tetraborate.
Overdose
Symptoms (lethal dose for adults – 10-20 g, toxic concentration in the blood – 40 mg / l, lethal – 50 mg / l): abdominal pain, vomiting, decreased appetite, diarrhea, dehydration, weakness, confusion consciousness, dermatitis, menstrual irregularities, anemia, twitching of the muscles of the face and limbs, alopecia, impaired function of the heart, liver and kidneys.
Treatment: gastric lavage, forced diuresis,
for severe poisoning – hemodialysis, i / m – riboflavin mononucleotide 10 mg / day, correction of water-electrolyte balance and acidosis: i / v infusion of sodium bicarbonate solution, plasma replacement solutions, NaCl and dextrose.
For abdominal pain – s / c 1 ml of 0.1% solution of atropine, 1 ml of 0.2% solution of platyphyllin, 1 ml of 1% solution of promedol, iv – dextrose-procaine mixture (50 ml of 2% procaine solution and 500 ml of 5% dextrose solution).
