Pharmacological action of
Tobrex eye drops include tobramycin, a broad-spectrum antibiotic from the aminoglycoside group. The bactericidal effect of the drug extends to bacteria streptococci and staphylococci, Klebsiella, E. coli, diphtheria bacteria.
It acts bacteriostatically at low concentrations (it blocks the 30S subunit of ribosomes and disrupts protein synthesis), and at higher concentrations it is bactericidal (disrupts the function of cytoplasmic membranes, causing the death of a microbial cell).
Highly active against Staphylococcus spp. (including Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus epidermidis / coagulase-negative and coagulase-positive /, as well as strains, penicillin resistant) Streptococcus spp. (including – hemolytic species, some non-hemolytic species, Streptococcus pneumoniae) Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Enterobacter aerogenes, Proteus mirabilis (indole-negative) and indole-positive species Proteus spp., Haemophilus influen , Haemophilus aegyptius, Moraxella lacunata, Acinetobacter calcoaceticus (Herellea vaginacola), some species of Neisseria spp. (including Neisseria gonorrhoeae).

Use during pregnancy and lactation

Dosage and Administration
Topically.
Eye Drops: In a mild infection process, 1-2 drops in the conjunctival sac every 4 hours.
In an acute severe infectious process, 2 drops in the conjunctival sac every 60 minutes, with a decrease in the frequency of instillations of the drug as inflammation decreases.
Side effects
Local. Allergic reaction, accompanied by itching and swelling of the eyelids, conjunctival hyperemia, lacrimation. There may be a burning sensation and sensation of a foreign body in the eye.
Drug Interaction
In the case of co-administration of tobramycin topically with systemic aminoglycoside antibiotics, systemic side effects may be exacerbated.
Overdose
Symptoms: punctate keratitis, erythema, increased lachrymation, itching and swelling of the eyelid.
Treatment is symptomatic.
