Description
Pharmacological action
Antispasmodic myotropic action, It has a direct effect on the smooth muscles of the gastrointestinal tract (mainly the large intestine). Eliminates spasm without affecting normal intestinal motility. Inhibits phosphodiesterase. It stabilizes the level of cyclic adenosine monodiphosphoric acid. It does not have an anticholinergic effect.
Pharmacokinetics
When administered orally, it undergoes presystem hydrolysis and is not detected in plasma. It is metabolized in the liver to veratric acid and mebeverine alcohol. It is excreted mainly by the kidneys in the form of metabolites, in small quantities by bile. Mebeverin capsules have the property of prolonged release. Even after repeated administration, no significant cumulation is observed.
Indications
In adults:
spasm of the gastrointestinal tract (including that caused by an organic disease)
intestinal colic
biliary colic
irritable bowel syndrome.
In children over 12 years of age:
functional disorders of the gastrointestinal tract, accompanied by abdominal pain.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity

Dosage and administration
Inside adults and children over 12 years old, 1 capsule (200 mg) 2 times / day 20 minutes before meals (morning and evening). Swallow whole with water.
Side effects
Dizziness, headache, diarrhea, constipation.
Allergic reactions: urticaria, Quincke’s edema, facial edema and exanthema.
Overdose of
Symptoms: CNS arousal. The specific antidote is unknown. Gastric lavage and symptomatic therapy are recommended.
