Description
Pharmacological action
Meloxicam, which is part of the drug, belongs to the non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs of the oxycam class (derivative of enolic acid), has a pronounced anti-inflammatory and analgesic activity, exhibits antipyretic properties.
The drug selectively inhibits the cyclooxygenase-II enzyme, inhibits the synthesis of prostaglandins (inflammatory mediators), provides an anti-inflammatory and antipyretic effect, slightly affects cyclooxygenase-I, minimizing the development of side effects such as bleeding, ulceration and impaired renal function.
The drug is completely absorbed from the injection site. The bioavailability during intramuscular administration is close to 100%. After intramuscular administration, the maximum concentration of the active substance is created in the blood after 60-90 minutes and is kept at the therapeutic level for up to 24 hours.
The drug is almost completely metabolized in the liver. It is excreted equally with feces and urine mainly in the form of metabolites. In unchanged form with feces, less than 5% of the daily dose is excreted, in urine unchanged, the drug is found only in trace amounts. The average elimination half-life is 20 hours.
Indications

Contraindications
It is forbidden to use the drug in animals with impaired renal and hepatic function, as well as simultaneously with glucocorticosteroids, with other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, anticoagulants and with increased sensitivity to the drug.
Composition
The preparation is a clear liquid from light yellow to yellow color without mechanical impurities. 1.0 cm3 of the preparation contains: 0.002 g of meloxicam, excipients and filler up to 1.0 cm3.
Dosage and administration
The drug is used for dogs and cats – subcutaneously in a dose: for the first administration of 0.2 mg / kg meloxicam (0.1 cm3) per 1 kg of animal weight, for subsequent administration of 0.1 mg / kg meloxicam (0.05 cm3) with an interval of 24 hours, but no more than 2-3 times a week.
When using the drug in animals at the injection site, the formation of gradually passing swelling is possible.
Side effects
Side effects and complications when using the drug in accordance with the instructions are not observed, with the exception of possible allergic reactions.
In case of an overdose of the drug or a longer use in animals, vomiting, diarrhea and depression can occur.
If side effects occur, the drug is discontinued, antihistamines (allervet, ranitidine, famotidine), calcium preparations (calcium gluconate or chloride) are prescribed and plasma-replacing solutions are administered.
