Pharmacological action

Forosa has a bone resorption inhibitory effect.

Indications

Paget’s disease (deforming osteosis), osteoporosis in postmenopausal women (prevention of bone fractures, including thigh and spine), osteoporosis in men, hypercalcemia in malignant tumors.

Dosage and administration of

Forosa taken orally, without chewing, 2 hours (at least 30 minutes) before the first meal, washed down with water only. The recommended dose for osteoporosis in women is 10 mg / day, for prevention – 5 mg / day. With Paget’s disease – 40 mg / day for 6 months.

Side effects of the

Digestive system: abdominal pain, dyspeptic disorders (constipation or diarrhea, flatulence, nausea, vomiting), dysphagia, heartburn, esophagitis, dystonia of the stomach, ulceration of the mucous membrane of the mouth, pharynx, gullet, and esophagus , melena.

From the nervous system: headaches, irritability.

From the musculoskeletal system: pain in the bones, muscles and joints, in the treatment with bisphosphonates, osteonecrosis of the jaw has rarely been observed.

From the side of the organ of vision: uveitis, scleritis.

Allergic reactions: hypersensitivity reactions (including flushing of the skin, urticaria, angioedema).

Other: photosensitization, asymptomatic transient hypocalcemia and hypophosphatemia.

Drug Interactions

The simultaneous use of calcium preparations (including food additives) and antacids impairs the absorption of alendronate. In this regard, it is recommended to take other medications not earlier than 30 minutes after taking Forosa.

NSAIDs (including acetylsalicylic acid) can enhance the side effects of alendronic acid from the gastrointestinal tract.

Although there have been no special studies on drug interactions, the use of alendronate in clinical studies with a large number of widely used drugs was not accompanied by the development of clinically significant interactions.
