Pharmacological action
Gentam refers to combined antibacterial agents for parenteral use. The combination of amoxicillin and gentamicin, included in the composition of the drug, provides a wide range of its antibacterial action against gram-positive and gram-negative microorganisms. Gentamicin sulfate, an aminoglycoside antibiotic, inhibits bacterial protein synthesis of microorganisms, highly active against gram-negative aerobic bacteria, including Escherichia coli, Shigella spp., Salmonella spp., Enterobacter spp., Klebsiella spp., Serratia spp., Proteusomppas, poteusomppas. aeruginosa, Acinetobacter spp., as well as aerobic gram-positive cocci, including those resistant to penicillins and other antibiotics. After intramuscular administration of Gentam, the maximum concentration of gentamicin sulfate in blood serum is reached after 30-40 minutes, amoxicillin trihydrate after 1 hour and is kept at the therapeutic level for about 24 hours. Antibiotics are excreted from the body of animals mainly in unchanged forms, mainly with urine and partially with bile. According to the degree of exposure to the body, gents are classified as moderately hazardous substances (hazard class 3 according to GOST 12.1.007-76).
Indications
Gents are prescribed for therapeutic purposes to horses, cattle, sheep, pigs, dogs and cats for infectious diseases of the gastrointestinal tract, respiratory tract, genitourinary system, joints, soft tissues and skin, necrobacteriosis, umbilical infections, atrophy , mastitis-metritis-agalactia syndrome and other primary and secondary infections of bacterial etiology, the causative agents of which are sensitive to amoxicillin and gentamicin.
Contraindications
Contraindication to the use of Gentam is the animal s hypersensitivity to aminoglycosides and beta-lactam antibiotics (including a history), severe renal failure with azotemia and uremia, auditory nerve neuritis, myasthenia gravis. It is forbidden to use the drug in females during pregnancy.
Composition
Gentam in 1 ml contains amoxicillin trihydrate – 150 mg and gentamicin sulfate – 40 mg as active ingredients, as well as auxiliary components: butylhydroxytoluene – 0.85 mg, magnesium stearate – 16 mg, benzyl alcohol – 9 mg and vegetable oil – up to 1 ml. 3.
Dosage and administration
Gents are administered to animals subcutaneously or intramuscularly once a day at a dose of 1 ml per 10 kg of animal weight (15 mg of amoxicillin and 4 mg of gentamicin per 1 kg of animal weight). The duration of the course of treatment, depending on the severity of the disease, is 2-5 days and is determined by the attending veterinarian. The maximum amount of the drug for administration in one place should not exceed 20 ml for cattle and horses, 10 ml for pigs, sheep and calves, 5 ml for piglets, 2.5 ml for dogs and cats. Before use, the vial with the suspension should be shaken thoroughly for 1-2 minutes.
Overdose of
With a significant overdose of the drug, animals may experience swelling at the injection site, vomiting, and diarrhea with prolonged use at high doses – neurotoxic reactions and thrombocytopenia. General measures are taken to remove the drug from the body, anticholinesterase drugs, as well as calcium preparations, are administered intravenously.
Storage conditions
Store the drug in the manufacturer’s sealed packaging, in a dry, dark place, separate from food and feed, at a temperature of 5 ° C to 25 ° C. 5. Gents should be kept out of the reach of children.
Expiration
Expiration of the drug under the conditions of storage in a sealed package – 2 years from the date of manufacture, after opening the bottle – no more than 28 days. It is forbidden to use Gentam after the expiration date.
