Pharmacological action
Anti-glaucoma drug. Selective beta1-blocker without internal sympathomimetic activity. It does not have a membrane stabilizing (local anesthetic) effect.
Topical application of betaxolol reduces intraocular pressure by reducing the production of intraocular fluid.
The onset of the hypotensive effect is observed 30 minutes after instillation, the maximum effect develops after 2 hours. After a single instillation, the effect on ophthalmotonus persists for 12 hours.
Betaxolol (compared with other beta-blockers) does not cause a decrease in blood flow in the optic nerve.
Application Betoptika does not lead to the onset of miosis, accommodation spasm, hemeralopia, the effect of the veil in front of the eyes (unlike myotics).
Indications
The drug is used to reduce intraocular pressure as a monotherapy or in combination with other drugs for: Open-angle glaucoma.
Ocular hypertension.
Betoptik can be used to treat open-angle glaucoma or ocular hypertension in patients with diseases of the respiratory system.
Use during pregnancy and lactation
There is not enough experience with Betoptik during pregnancy, no breast-feeding. Betoptic can be used to treat pregnant and lactating mothers as prescribed by the attending physician if the expected therapeutic effect exceeds the risk of developing possible side effects.
Composition
1 ml drops contain:
Active substances: betaxolol hydrochloride – 5.6 mg, which corresponds to the content of betaxolol – 5 mg.
Excipients: benzalkonium chloride, hydrochloric acid and / or sodium hydroxide solution (to maintain pH), purified water.
Dosage and administration
The drug is instilled in the conjunctival sac, 1-2 drops 2 times / day.
In some patients, stabilization of intraocular pressure occurs within a few weeks, therefore it is recommended to control intraocular pressure during the first month of treatment.
With insufficient clinical efficacy of monotherapy, additional therapy is prescribed.
Side effects
From the side of the organ of vision: often – short-term discomfort in the eyes after instillation, lacrimation in some cases – decreased sensitivity of the cornea, redness of the eye, acupuncture, photophobia, anisocoria, photophobia, itching, dry eyes.
From the side of the central nervous system: rarely – insomnia, depressive neurosis.
Drug Interaction
The simultaneous use of Betoptik and beta-blockers for oral administration increases the risk of side effects (both local and systemic) due to the additive effect (therefore, patients receiving this combination of drugs should be monitored.
When using Betoptic in combination with drugs that deplete catecholamines (such as reserpine), blood pressure and bradycardia may be reduced.
Overdose
In case of contact with excess drug, rinse eyes with warm water.
Storage conditions
Store at temperatures between 8 ° and 30 ° C out of the reach of children.
After opening the bottle, the drug should be used within 1 month.
