Indications
Acute and chronic allergic and inflammatory processes: inflammation of the anterior part of the eye (conjunctivitis, keratoconjunctivitis, deep keratitis without damage to the epithelium, iritis, iridocyclitis, episiscleritis, scleritis, and others), inflammation of the back eye ), sympathetic uveitis prevention and treatment of inflammatory phenomena after injuries and surgical eye operations, thermal and chemical burns of the eyes in the late period.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to the drug, viral, fungal infections of the eye, mycobacterial and acute purulent diseases of the eyes, trachoma, glaucoma, violation of the integrity of the corneal epithelium.
Use during pregnancy and lactation
It is allowed to use the drug during pregnancy and lactation for 7-10 days (no more) if the significance of the effect exceeds the risk of side effects for the mother and the fetus.
Composition
Active ingredient: dexamethasone (as dexamethasone sodium phosphate) – 5.0 mg.
Excipients: boric acid, sodium tetraborate (E 285), disodium edetate (E 386), benzalkonium chloride, water for injection.
Dosage and administration
Adults and children over 12 years of age with acute inflammatory conditions are instilled in the conjunctival sac 1-2 drops 4-5 times a day for 2 days, after reducing the symptoms of inflammation 3-4 times a day for 4-6 days.
In chronic conditions, instill 1-2 drops 2 times a day for several weeks. The maximum duration of the drug is 4 weeks.
In the postoperative and post-traumatic periods, the drug is used from 8 days after surgery for strabismus, retinal detachment, cataract extraction and from the moment of injury, 1-2 drops 2-4 times a day for 2-4 weeks with anti-glaucoma filtering operation – day of surgery or the day after it.
Children from 6 to 12 years old with allergic and inflammatory conditions are instilled 1 drop 2-3 times a day for 7-10 days, if necessary, treatment is continued after 10 days of monitoring the state of the cornea.
Side effects srd Immediately after instillation, a short burning sensation, lacrimation is possible, conjunctival hyperemia. Allergic reactions may occur. With prolonged use (more than 2 weeks), an increase in intraocular pressure and perforation of the cornea (with its thinning), the development of posterior capsular cataract (more than 3 months of use of the drug) are possible.
Drug Interaction
With prolonged use with iodoxuridine, an increase in destructive processes in the corneal epithelium may be exacerbated. In the development of the infectious process, the simultaneous use of the drug with antibacterial agents is possible.
overdose
Symptoms: overdosage with topical dexamethasone may cause side effects.
Treatment: The drug should be discontinued and symptomatic therapy prescribed. There is no specific antidote.
