Description
Pharmacological action
Sulfetrisan is a combined antibacterial drug for parenteral use. The combination of the components that make up the drug provides a wide range of its antibacterial effects against gram-positive and gram-negative microorganisms. Erythromycin – an antibiotic of the macrolide group, the mechanism of bacteriostatic action of which is associated with blocking protein synthesis and disruption of the process of the formation of peptide bonds between amino acid molecules in a microbial cell. Active against gram-positive (Stapylococcus spp., Streptococcus spp., Corynebacterium spp., Clostridium spp.) And some gram-negative bacteria (Pasteurella spp., Haemophilus spp. And Mycoplasma spp.). The action of erythromycin is enhanced by the combination of sulfadimethoxin and trimethoprim, which, along with the action on gram-positive microflora, are highly active against gram-negative bacteria (Escherichia coli, Salmonella spp., Shigella spp., Haemophilus spp, Klebsiella spp.,). Possessing a synergistic effect and increasing each other’s activity by sequentially affecting the metabolism of n-amino-benzoic and folic acids in a microbial cell, the combination of sulfadimethoxin and trimethoprim is effective against microorganisms that are weakly sensitive to sulfanilamides. Dexamethasone is a synthetic glucocorticosteroid that has anti-inflammatory, desensitizing and antitoxic effects. After intramuscular administration of the drug, its antibacterial components are easily absorbed from the injection site and penetrate into most organs and tissues of the body, reaching maximum concentrations after 2-3 hours. Erythromycin is excreted mainly with bile and partially (about 15%) with urine in an unchanged form, trimethoprim and sulfodimethoxin – mainly with urine in an unchanged form and in the form of metabolites (15-29%), dexamethasone – mainly in the form of metabolites with urine (about 75%) and bile.
Indications
Sulfetrisan is prescribed for therapeutic purposes to cattle and small cattle, pigs, dogs and cats for infectious diseases of the gastrointestinal tract, respiratory tract, genitourinary system, pasteurellosis, colibacteriosis, enzootic pneumonia and other infections, edema bacterial etiology, the causative agents of which are sensitive to the components of the drug.
Contraindications
Contraindication to the use of sulfetrisan is the individual hypersensitivity of the animal to the components of the drug, deficiency of glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase, liver and / or renal failure.
Composition
Sulfetrisan in 1 ml contains sulfadimethoxine – 200 mg as active ingredients, erythromycin thiocyanate – 50 mg, trimethoprim – 18 mg, and dexamethasone – 0.1 mg as well as auxiliary components: benzocaine – 1.5 mg, sodium hydroxide – 2.92 mg, dimethylacetamide – 0.18 ml, dimethylformamide – 0.15 ml, dimethyl sulfoxide – 0.05 ml, water for injection – 0.2 ml and propylene glycol – up to 1 ml.
Dosage and administration
Sulfetrisan is administered to animals at intervals of 12-24 hours (depending on the severity of the disease) deeply intramuscularly for 3-5 days at a dose of 1 ml per 10 kg of animal weight. The maximum volume of sulfetrisan for administration to an animal in one place should not exceed 20 ml.
Side effects
When using Sulfetrisan in accordance with this instruction, side effects and complications are usually not observed. In some animals, pain at the injection site is noted, which spontaneously passes and does not require the use of drugs. Due to the increased species sensitivity of goats to the components of the drug, Sulfetrisan should be used with this type of animal with special care under the supervision of a veterinarian. In the event of allergic reactions, the use of the drug is stopped and antihistamines and symptomatic agents are prescribed to the animal.
Overdose of
With a significant overdose of the drug, the animal may experience swelling at the injection site, a depressed state, refusal of feed. In these cases, apply general measures aimed at removing the drug from the body.
Expiration
Expiration of the drug, subject to storage conditions in unopened packaging – 3 years from the date of manufacture, after opening the bottle – no more than 28 days.
