Description

Pharmacological action

Mexidol-Vet has pronounced antioxidant, antihypoxic and membrane protective properties. Increases the resistance of the animal to the effects of various damaging factors to oxygen-dependent pathological conditions (shock, hypoxia, ischemia). It improves microcirculation and rheological properties of blood, stabilizes the membrane structures of platelets and red blood cells during hemolysis, has a lipid-lowering effect, reduces the content of total cholesterol and low density lipoproteins. Mexidol-Vet inhibits lipid peroxidation, increases the activity of superoxide dismutase, improves synaptic transmission and transport of mediators. The mechanism of action of the drug is the ability to increase the compensatory activation of aerobic glycolysis and reduce the degree of inhibition of oxidative processes in the Krebs cycle under conditions of hypoxia, with an increase in the content of ATP and creatine phosphate, activate the energy-synthesizing function of mitochondria. With parenteral administration, Mexidol-Vet quickly enters the blood, organs and tissues of the animal. It is excreted from the body of an animal with urine, mainly in a glucuronoconjugated form. Mexidol-Vet solution for injection according to the degree of exposure to the body of warm-blooded animals belongs to moderately hazardous substances, does not have locally irritating, cumulative, embryotoxic and teratogenic properties.

Indications

Assign to dogs and cats for prophylactic and therapeutic purposes independently and in combination therapy for acute and chronic cardiovascular and cardiopulmonary failure, acute purulent-inflammatory processes in the abdominal cavity (acute necrotic pancreatitis, peritonitis), for the purpose of prevention anesthetic and post-narcotic complications in the post-traumatic and postoperative periods, including with traumatic brain injuries, with pathology of the skin (dermatitis, eczema, trophic ulcers and wounds), to improve the condition of the skin and hair, in veterinary geriatrics (caring for old animals) with age-related disorders of the animal’s body (sluggish chronic diseases, neurodermatitis, dermatitis associated with impaired peripheral circulation).

Contraindications

Increased individual sensitivity to the drug.

Recommendations for the use of

Mexidol-Vet is administered to animals intramuscularly or intravenously (drip – at a rate of 60 drops per minute, jet – for 5 to 7 minutes). With the intravenous route of administration, the drug is diluted with water for injection or with physiological saline. The therapeutic dose of the drug depends on the severity of the clinical course of the disease. In the acute period of the disease, the drug is used starting from a dose of 10-15 mg per 1 kg of animal weight, then the dose is reduced to 5 mg per 1 kg of animal weight. The course of treatment is 5 to 15 days. The daily dose of Mexidol-Vet solution for injection is administered in two divided doses. In order to prevent anesthesia and post-narcotic complications, the drug is used 2 to 3 days before surgery, in the postoperative period – 2 to 3 days after surgery 2 times a day. With prolonged anesthesia and a severe clinical condition of the animal, the drug is administered fractionally at a dose of 20 mg per 1 kg of animal weight during the operation. As a therapeutic and prophylactic agent in veterinary geriatrics (caring for old animals), the drug is used for dogs and cats older than 7 years of age intramuscularly at a dose of 10 mg per 1 kg of animal weight 2 times a day for 5 to 7 days. In the next 20 to 25 days, Mexidol-Vet is used in the form of tablets at a dose of 5 mg per 1 kg of animal weight. A second course is carried out after 3 to 4 months. The dose, duration of treatment and the frequency of use of Mexidol-Vet is prescribed by the attending veterinarian, depending on the physiological condition of the animal and the course of the disease. The use of Mexidol-Vet solution for injection does not exclude the use of other means of pathogenetic and symptomatic therapy.

In 1 ml of Mexidol-Vet solution for injection, 50 mg of Mexidol (ethylmethylhydroxypyridine succinate), as well as water for injection, are contained as active substance.
