Pharmacological action
Mexidol-Vet has pronounced antioxidant, antitoxic and membrane-protective properties. The drug increases the body’s resistance to the effects of free radicals leading to oxygen-dependent pathological conditions (shock, hypoxia, ischemia), improves microcirculation and rheological properties of blood, stabilizes the membrane structures of platelets and erythrocytes during hemolysis, has a lipid-lowering effect, reduces the content of total cholesterol and low density lipoproteins . Mexidol-Vet inhibits lipid peroxidation, increases the activity of superoxide dismutase, improves synaptic transmission and transport of mediators. The mechanism of action of the drug is the ability to cause an increase in the compensatory activation of aerobic glycolysis and to reduce the degree of inhibition of oxidative processes in the Krebs cycle under conditions of hypoxia, with an increase in the content of ATP and creatine phosphate, and to activate the energy-synthesizing function of mitochondria. With parenteral administration, the drug quickly enters the blood, organs and tissues of the animal. It is excreted mainly in the urine, mainly in glucuronoconjugated form. When administered orally, the drug is rapidly absorbed in the gastrointestinal tract and enters the blood, organs and tissues of the animal. Indications
Assign to dogs and cats for therapeutic and prophylactic purposes independently and in combination therapy for acute and chronic cardiovascular and cardiopulmonary failure, acute purulent-inflammatory processes in the abdominal cavity (acute necrotic pancreatitis, peritonitis), for the purpose of prevention anesthetic and post-narcotic complications, in the post-traumatic and postoperative periods, with exogenously organic diseases of the brain (as a result of neuroinfections), acute disorders cerebral circulation, epilepsy, episindrome, traumatic brain injury, with pathology of the skin (dermatitis, eczema, trophic ulcers and wounds), for the prevention of complications during wound healing, to improve the condition of the skin and hair cover, during periods of extreme stress, to increase resistance to stress associated with the adaptation of animals to new conditions (transportation, participation in exhibitions, competitions), in veterinary geriatrics for age-related disorders the body (sluggish chronic diseases, neurodermatitis, dermatitis associated with impaired peripheral circulation).
Contraindications
– acute violations of the liver and kidneys – increased individual sensitivity to the components of the drug.
Composition
1 ml contains 25 mg or 50 mg of mexidol (2-ethyl-6-methyl-3-hydroxypyridine succinate) as an active ingredient, as well as water for injection.
Side effects
Side effects and complications when using the drug in accordance with the instructions, as a rule, are not observed. With an overdose, drowsiness may develop. When symptoms of an overdose appear, the drug is temporarily discontinued, if necessary, carry out symptomatic treatment.
Storage conditions
The drug should be stored in the manufacturer ² ¢s sealed packaging in a dry place, protected from direct sunlight, out of reach of children, separately from food and feed, at a temperature of 2 ° C to 25 ° C. Unused drug is disposed of in accordance with the requirements of the law.
