Description

Pharmacological action of

The phenbendazole contained in the preparation has a wide spectrum of anthelmintic action, is active, is active eggs of nematodes of the gastrointestinal tract and lungs parasitizing in animals: S. vulgaris, S. edentatus, Trichonema, Cyathostoma spp., Parascaris equorum, Oxyuris equi, Strongyloides westeri. The mechanism of action of the drug is the destruction of the microtubules in the cells of the intestines of helminths and the violation of energy processes, which leads to the death of the parasite. Panakur Pasta, according to the degree of toxic effects on warm-blooded animals, is a low-hazard substance (LD50 for white mice when administered orally is 10,000 mg / kg animal weight) in therapeutic doses does not have cumulative, embryotoxic, teratogenic and allergenic properties. When introduced into the body, fenbendazole and its metabolites are distributed throughout the body, but accumulate as much as possible in the liver. Most of the drug administered is excreted unchanged in feces and, to a lesser extent, with urine and milk.

Indications

For prophylactic and therapeutic purposes in horse nematodes.

Contraindications

Increased individual sensitivity to fenbendazole.

Special instructions

Slaughter of animals for meat is allowed 5 days after the use of the drug. In case of forced slaughter of a predetermined period, meat is used to feed carnivores or to produce meat and bone meal. Mares milk is used as food for people 7 days after treatment.

Composition

1 g Panakur Paste contains 187.5 mg of fenbendazole as the active ingredient. In appearance it is a homogeneous pasty mass of white color, with the taste of apple and cinnamon.

Dosage and administration

The drug is administered to horses individually individually once at a dose of 1 g of paste per 25 kg of animal weight, which corresponds to 7.5 mg of fenbendazole per 1 kg of animal weight. For the treatment of diarrhea in foals caused by Strongyloides westeri, the use of an increased dose of Panakur Paste is effective: 24 g of paste per 90 kg of animal weight, which corresponds to 50 mg of fenbendazole per 1 kg of animal weight once. In the treatment of Panacur Pasta encapsulated in the mucous membrane with cyatostom, the paste is used for 5 days in the usual dose: 1 g of paste per 25 kg of animal weight, which corresponds to 7.5 mg of fenbendazole per 1 kg of animal weight. The paste is squeezed onto the root of the tongue from a syringe dispenser, which is inserted into the interdental space of the oral cavity, then the animal’s head is raised for several seconds. The paste has sufficient stickiness, which prevents its leakage and spitting out. The paste volume calculated on the horse’s weight is established by moving the nut along the stock and fixing the appropriate dose. For preventive purposes, Panakur Pastu is recommended to be administered to horses at regular intervals 2 to 4 times a year. One syringe is designed to handle a horse weighing 600 kg. Panakur Pastu can be used in sick, weakened, pregnant and highly invasive animals. Before mass treatment, each batch of the drug is tested in a small group: 5 – 7 low-value horses. In the absence of complications, after 2 to 3 days, Panakur Pasta is used by the rest of the animals.
