Description
Pharmacological action
Gentamicin is part of the group of aminoglycoside antibiotics. It acts actively on gram-negative and some gram-positive bacteria. After intramuscular administration, it is well absorbed. The maximum concentration in serum appears after 1 hour, and the therapeutic concentration remains in the body for 8 to 12 hours. Gentamicin penetrates the pleural and abdominal cavities and through the placenta. It is secreted in active form mainly through the kidneys.
Indications
Treatment of severe infections, especially respiratory and urinary tract infections, soft tissue treatment and prevention of infections caused by E. coli and Salmonella spp. treatment of arthritis and polyarthritis of dermatitis in dogs caused by gentamicin-sensitive microorganisms.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to gentamicin.
Special instructions
Slaughter of meat of animals and birds, which were used GENTAMICIN, is allowed no earlier than 21 days after discontinuation of the drug. The meat of animals forced to be killed before the expiration of the specified period is used directly for feeding animals or for the production of meat and bone meal. Milk obtained from animals treated with GENTAMICIN it is forbidden to use for food purposes during the treatment period and within 72 hours after discontinuation of the drug. Such milk can be used to feed animals.
Composition of
1 ml of solution contains 40 mg of gentamicin sulfate.
Dosage and Administration
Gentamicin (injection) is administered intramuscularly. Large pets are injected with 0.5 ml of solution per 10 kg of body weight twice a day for small animals – on the first day: 1.1 ml of solution per 10 kg of body weight twice a day, on subsequent days: 1.1 ml of solution per 10 kg of body weight once a day. Only half the recommended dose is given to newborn animals during the first week of life. Treatment is continued for 3 to 5 days.
