Pharmacological action

Xymelin is a vasoconstrictor drug for topical use in ENT practice, alpha-adrenergic agonist. Causes narrowing of the blood vessels of the nasal mucosa, thus eliminating edema and hyperemia of the mucous membrane of the nasopharynx.

Facilitates nasal breathing in rhinitis. In therapeutic doses, it does not irritate the mucous membrane, does not cause hyperemia.

Action occurs in a few minutes and lasts for 10-12 hours.

Indications

acute respiratory infections with rhinitis (runny nose) symptoms

acute allergic rhinitis

hay fever

sinusitis

eustachitis

otitis media (to reduce nasal mucosa swelling for medical treatment).

Caution: the drug should be used for diabetes mellitus, functional class III-IV tension angina, prostatic hyperplasia.

Use during pregnancy and lactation

During pregnancy and lactation, the drug should be used only after a careful assessment of the risk-benefit ratio for the mother and the fetus, it is not allowed to exceed the recommended doses.

Composition

1 ml nasal spray contains:

Active substances:

Ipratropium bromide monohydrate 0.6 mg, Xylometazoline hydrochloride 0.5 mg

Excipients:

Disodium edetate dihydrate,

glycerol (85%),

concentrated hydrochloric acid (up to pH 4.5), sodium

Dosage and administration of

Intranasal.

For adults over 18 years of age: 1 injection in each nasal passage 3 times a day.

The drug is used no more than 10 days without consulting a doctor.

A single injection of Xymelin Extra contains about 70 micrograms of xylometazoline hydrochloride and 84 micrograms of ipratropium bromide.

Side effects

Local reactions:

with frequent and / or prolonged use – irritation and / or dryness of the nasopharyngeal mucosa, burning, tingling, sneezing, hypersecretion rarely – swelling of the nasal mucosa.

Systemic reactions:

rarely – palpitations, tachycardia, arrhythmias, increased blood pressure, headache, vomiting, insomnia, visual impairment with prolonged use at high doses – depression.

Drug Interaction

Incompatible with MAO inhibitors and tricyclic antidepressants.

Overdose

Symptoms: increased side effects.

Treatment: carrying out symptomatic therapy.
