Pharmacological action
Prospan – a herbal preparation for coughing. It has an expectorant, mucolytic and antispasmodic effect. It reduces the viscosity of sputum and promotes its discharge.
Indications
As an expectorant in the treatment of inflammatory diseases of the upper respiratory tract and lungs, accompanied by a cough with sputum that is difficult to separate.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to the drug, children’s age (up to 1 year) alcoholism and other conditions in which alcohol is contraindicated.
Use during pregnancy and lactation
If you need to use Prospan during pregnancy, you should correlate the expected benefits to the mother and the potential risk to the fetus.
Caution should be exercised when using the drug during lactation (breastfeeding).
Composition
100 ml syrup contains:
Active ingredient: dry ivy leaf extract (5-7.5: 1) 7.00 mg
Excipients: purified water 566.66 mg potassium sorbate 1.34 mg anhydrous citric acid 0.50 mg sorbitol solution (crystallized) 550.00 mg xanthan gum 1.50 mg
cherry flavor 3.00 mg
Dosage and administration
Inside, for children 1 6 years old – 1 teaspoon (2.5 ml) 3 times a day, for schoolchildren and adolescents – 2 teaspoons 3 times a day, adults – 2 3 teaspoons 3 times a day. The course of treatment in mild cases is 1 week, after the disappearance of the symptoms of the disease for another 2-3 days.
