Pharmacological action
Meloxicam, which is part of the drug, belongs to the non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs of the oxycam class (enolic acid derivative), has a pronounced anti-inflammatory, analgesic and antipyretic effect.
The drug selectively inhibits the cyclooxygenase-P enzyme, inhibiting the synthesis of prostaglandins (inflammatory mediators) and providing an anti-inflammatory and antipyretic effect, slightly affects cyclooxygenase-1, minimizing the development of side effects, such as bleeding, ulceration and impaired renal function.
Oral bioavailability of the drug in cats and dogs reaches 100%. Peak serum concentrations in dogs are 0.464 mcg / ml after 7.5 hours, in cats after 1.5 hours. The clearance of meloxicam in dogs is (0.17 В± 0.02) ml / min, and the half-life is from 12 to 36 hours, in cats from 15 to 21 hours. Meloxicam is metabolized in the liver and excreted in the urine and feces unchanged.
Contraindications
Do not use the drug in animals with hypersensitivity to meloxicam. With extreme caution, meloxicam should be used in animals with dehydration, hypovolemia, or low blood pressure due to the increased risk of renal toxicity.
Do not use in animals with severe diseases of the heart, liver or kidneys, peptic ulcer of the stomach and intestines, bleeding, poisoning with anticoagulants (coumarin, warfarin, bromodialion) or animals that have been used anticoagulants in the last trimester of pregnancy and lactation.
Dosing and Administration
Petkam Tabs 0.5 mg is given inside the dogs on the first day of treatment, 2 tablets per 5 kg of animal body weight, on the second day of treatment and then – 1 tablet per 5 kg of animal body weight, once a day.
Petkam Tabs 2.0 mg is given inside dogs 2 tablets per 20 kg of animal body weight on the first day of treatment, on the second day of treatment and then 1 tablet per 20 kg of animal body weight, once a day.
The duration of treatment depends on the severity of the condition of the animal. In acute pain, the recommended course of treatment for dogs is 5-7 days, and in chronic pain – up to 28 days.

For cats, the drug is given 1 tablet per 5 kg of the animal’s body weight inside, once. In case of serious illness, the course of treatment for cats can be extended, but not more than four days.
Side effects of
When using the drug, gastrointestinal tract damage, loss of appetite, vomiting, diarrhea, melena and apathy are possible.
Overdose of
If you overdose the drug, you should immediately induce vomiting, prescribe adsorbents (activated carbon, enterosgel), Ng-blockers (ranititdine, famotidine) and apply symptomatic treatment.
