Pharmacological action
Means of plant origin. Contained in the leaves and stems of peppermint. The basis of the essential oil is menthol, menton, pinenes, dipentene, fellandren, cineole, pulegon, jasmone, esters of menthol, valerianic and acetic acids.
It has anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects, causes local vasoconstriction, reduces skin itching, reflexively dilates blood vessels of the heart, brain, lungs, increases appetite, reduces nausea, vomiting, hiccups, increases salivation, intestinal motility, has a carmative effect, helps to reduce pressure intestines and reduces flatulence.
Menthol and other components of the essential oil have an antispasmodic effect on the smooth muscles of the gastrointestinal tract and urinary tract, and gently stimulate the secretion of digestive glands. Expectorant, mucolytic and moderate antihypoxic effects are preserved during inhalation with peppermint oil.
It has antiseptic, deodorizing and refreshing properties.
