Description
Pharmacological action of
Dirofen suspension is a combination anthelmintic drug. It has a wide spectrum of anthelmintic action on the mature and larval stages of development of round and ribbon helminths, which parasitize dogs, cats and ferrets (Tohosara sannis, Tohosara mystax, Toxascaris leonina, Taenia solium, Uncinaria stenocephala, Trichuris vulpis, Ancylostoma caninum, Echinococcus granulosus, Alveococcus multilocularis, Mesocestoides lineatus, Dipylidium caniniforum syrpida multiforum multiceum Hymenolepis nana, Hymenolepis diminuta). The mechanism of action of praziquantel and pyrantel pamoate, which are part of the drug, is based on the inhibition of fumarate reductase, persistent depolarization of the helminth muscle cells, impaired energy metabolism, which causes paralysis and death of helminths and contributes to their elimination from the gastrointestinal tract. When administered orally, praziquantel is rapidly absorbed in the gastrointestinal tract, reaching a maximum concentration in blood plasma after 1-3 hours, and distributed in the organs and tissues of the animal is excreted from the body mainly with urine (up to 80%) within 24 hours. Pyrantel pamoate is poorly absorbed, which ensures its prolonged effect on helminths in the intestine, is excreted from the body mainly in unchanged form with feces (93%). Dirofen suspension, according to the degree of exposure to the body, is a low-hazard substance (hazard class 4 according to GOST 12.1.007-76), at the recommended doses it does not have an embryotoxic, teratogenic and sensitizing effect.
