Description
Description
Quickly relieves heartburn. It takes a long time. Suitable for use during pregnancy. Pleasant mint flavor. It forms a protective barrier in the stomach, which for a long time prevents the recurrence of heartburn.
Pharmacological action of
Gaviscon ® enters the stomach and interacts with its contents, forming a protective barrier (raft), which prevents the occurrence of heartburn.
When ingested, Gaviscon ® quickly reacts with the acidic contents of the stomach. This forms an alginate gel, having an almost neutral pH value. The gel forms a protective barrier on the surface of the contents of the stomach, preventing the occurrence of gastroesophageal reflux. In case of regurgitation, the gel enters the esophagus, where it reduces irritation of the mucous membrane.
Pharmacokinetics
The mechanism of action of Gaviscon ® is a physical process and does not depend on absorption into the systemic circulation.
Indications
Symptomatic treatment of dyspepsia associated with increased acidity of gastric juice and gastroesophageal reflux (heartburn, sour belching), a feeling of heaviness in the stomach after eating, including during pregnancy.
Special instructions
At a dose of four tablets, the sodium content is 246 mg (10.6 mmol). This should be considered when dieting with a very limited salt content is necessary, for example, in some cases of congestive heart failure and with impaired renal function.
Each dose of four tablets contains 320 mg (3.2 mmol) of calcium carbonate. Caution must be exercised in the treatment of patients with hypercalcemia, nephrocalciposis, and recurrent formation of kidney stones containing calcium. Due to the content of aspartame, this drug should not be prescribed to patients with phenylketonuria. There is a possibility of reducing the effectiveness of the drug in patients with very low levels of acidity of gastric juice. If after treatment within seven days the symptoms do not disappear, then a re-evaluation of the clinical condition is necessary.
Effect on the ability to drive machinery and vehicles
The drug does not affect the ability to drive vehicles and machinery, as well as to engage in other potentially dangerous activities that require an increased concentration of attention and speed of psychomotor reactions.
