Description

Pharmacological action

Levomycetin is effective against many gram-positive and gram-negative microorganisms: withtafilococci, streptococci, diplococci, salmonella, pasteurell, Escherichia, protea. Active against gram-negative anaerobes. It acts on bacterial strains resistant to penicillin, streptomycin, tetracyclines, sulfonamides. Weakly active against acid-resistant bacteria, clostridia and protozoa.

Methyluracil has anabolic and anti-catabolic activity, has hematopoietic, leukopoietic, immunostimulating, anti-inflammatory effects. Normalizing nucleic acid metabolism, accelerates cell regeneration processes in wounds, accelerating tissue growth and granulation maturation and epithelization, stimulates erythro- and leukopoiesis, cellular and humoral factors of immunity.

Indications

For topical treatment of purulent wounds infected, including mixed microflora (including staphylococci, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and E. coli), in the first phase of the wound healing process (purulent-necrotic).

Contraindications

Individual hypersensitivity to chloramphenicol and methyluracil. The use of ointment “Levomekol-vet” excludes the use of other external medicines for the same purpose.

Composition

Ointment Levomekol is a complex drug with antibacterial and wound healing effects. 100 g of ointment contains 0.75 g of chloramphenicol (chloramphenicol), 4 g of methyluracil and, as a base, polyethylene oxide 1500, polyethylene oxide 400.

Dosage and administration

The drug is applied with a thin even layer on the entire affected skin surface daily 1-2 times a day until recovery, but not more than 10 days. The duration of treatment depends on the severity and course of the disease. To introduce the ointment into the purulent cavities, gauze napkins are impregnated with it and loosely fill the wound with them, or, after pre-heating the ointment to 35-36 ° C, inject it through a catheter (drainage tube) using a syringe.
