Suspension for oral administration, yellow, uniform, with a banana smell.
Pharmacological action of
Broad-spectrum antimicrobial agent for the treatment of gastrointestinal tract infections (intestinal antiseptic), a derivative of nitrofuran.
In high doses it has a bactericidal effect, in smaller doses it has a bacteriostatic effect.
Active against gram-positive bacteria: Staphylococcus spp., Streptococcus spp. Gram-negative bacteria: Salmonella spp., Shigella spp., Proteus spp.
Indications
Acute diarrhea of bacterial origin (in the absence of suspected invasion).
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to nitrofuran derivatives.
Do not use in infants (under 1 month of age) and premature infants.
Recommendations for use
Adults – 200 mg 4 times / day. For children aged 1 month to 2.5 years – 100 mg 2-3 times / day over 2.5 years – 200 mg 3 times / day. The duration of treatment is no more than 7 days.
Special instructions
The use of nifuroxazide does not preclude the need for rehydration therapy if if there are symptoms of dehydration.
Before use in children older than 1 month old, a congenital deficiency of sucrose-breaking enzymes should be ruled out.
Composition
5 ml (1 scoop) nifuroxazide 200 mg Excipients: banana flavor – 0.6 mg, carbomer 971P – 9 mg, anhydrous citric acid – 0.75 mg, methyl parahydroxybenzoate, sodium hydroxide – 2 mg, sucrose – 1000 mg, ethanol 96% – 0.05 ml, purified water – up to 5 ml.
Side effects
Possibly: allergic reaction.
Drug Interactions
Concomitant use of ethanol may cause hypersensitivity symptoms.
